    Default Pastrnak (Thumb Surgery)

Apparently slipped and fell late Sunday night following a team event, and had surgery yesterday.

Hopefully this means Marchand will ****in slow down. Guy's been putting up two points almost every game lately and he is killing me in my H2H playoffs.

This pretty much tanks my chances this season. For an off-ice incident... Great...

Speedy recovery David.. Just in time for your playoffs and too late for me.

NHL teams stick with UBI and LBI but Pastarnak's injury details had the freaking time in it. What the heck.

The statement "fell while leaving a sponsorship dinner" is probably my favorite part of this story.

Anyone have an update? There is nothing out there that I can find. This is an odd event - the injury, the circumstances, and the fact that the team was so uncharacteristically detailed in their disclosure of the injury. At least things are back to normal in that there is absolutely no update coming from the team.

I’ll translate the event for you:

Pastrnak was bombed leaving a charity /sponsor event and was goofing around because that’s what young people do. He was in dress shoes in the middle of winter because he didn’t pack dress shoes and arrive in boots, because that’s what many people do, though I don’t. He ran out of the place, horsing around with some buddies, slipped and caught himself or fell on his way to his Uber. Probably broke some small bones in his hand or tore some tiny ligaments. For a player with such awesome hands I’m worried this could have long term effects. The short timeline has me encouraged; the fact that he had surgery does not.

The lack of updates probably has to do with the fact that Bos gave a very complete report at the time of the incident so to hear anything before their projected two weeks is up would be giving FAR more than any team would be willing to give up without pressure.

I agree with most of agentzero's breakdown aside from the last two points. Last one first, NHLers often seem to go into surgery and return two or three weeks later. I often find myself wondering what would require surgery that couldn't heal on its own in two or three weeks but they have their reasons and it happens so whatever which leads to the prior point...

Just because he needed surgery doesn't have to mean there's any real concern to be had about his hands/scoring ability. Somewhat because of the original projection and that the doctors they have are going to be among the best possible but also because "hands" are so much more a mental skill than a physical one. I've seen many old guys with arthritic hands who can out-dangle better young guys who don't have any hand issues and I'm sure most of us have seen that often too. Biggest reason to me is that they're simply smarter hockey players and as needed they adjust.

Add up his probable healing ability due to his age, likely fitness program and diet required for his job, along with the short time frame that was projected by the doctor for his recovery.... I don't think theres anything to worry about and I can see him being back sooner than the projection than later as well.

Excellent posts - +1 for both of you. I was curious as Pastrnak was dropped in our one year league and our final season transaction deadline is this coming Monday. We don't have reserves, so do I grab him and hope he comes back within a week or so?

AZ, I think your account is probably as close to an eye witness account as we'll ever get. As for the hands issue, I think of how many times Gaudreau has been slashed and he's fine so hopefully Pasta fully recovers.

Saw somewhere that Pastrnak is expected to be in cast for 2 more weeks.

Just an FYI given the initial "at least 2 weeks" timetable, and we're now two weeks removed from the date of injury.

I was just about to come post the same thing.

With how clearly they laid out the situation in the first place I figured they must’ve been honest with the projection. Shame on me for trusting an NHL team when it comes to their injury reporting.
