Leafs gave up a 2nd round pick for Boyle a couple years ago at the deadline. While he is a good guy to have around and it was fun seeing him on the Leafs, he wasn’t a big difference maker and it ended up being a wasted pick. I like this trade a lot more this time around. Boyle was the 4C in Toronto, I’d expect him to be in the middle 6 in Nashville.
Another great move by Poile. Any speculation about Boyle's spot in the Preds lineup?
I expect Nashville to take advantage of his versatility and move him around the lineup a lot. While Turris is out he's an upgrade at C over Gaudreau. He'll also help their power play which has been terrible this year.

For those asking about the Preds lineup, I think they're still looking to make one more move for another bigger name forward (Stone, Panarin), but for now, Boyle looks to slot in Watson's wing spot in the bottom 6.
Forsberg-RyJo-Arvie
Fiala-Turris-Smith
Jarnkrok-Bonino-Sissons
Boyle-Gaudreau-Salomaki-Grimaldi-Tolvanen-Hartman-etc.
Not sure it's a deal I would have made as David Poile, but then again I'm not the Preds GM. Ideally they swing a deal for Stone, bumping Smith to line 3, and Jarnkrok down to 4 with Hartman and Boyle.

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
The refrain out of NAS all season is that they want to see their lineup when it's fully healthy, but there's a good chance that never happens, especially when the goal is four playoff rounds, almost no chance they have their full complement of talents for the whole playoff run. They have really struggled to find offense outside of their top line. Maybe that just means they have yet to get a hot streak out of Smith and Fiala, but they should probably try to add something more substantial than Boyle, who will help provide depth and maybe some PP value, but probably doesn't move the needle beyond being a reliable body come playoff time.
The pick for New Jersey returns an NHL player roughly 1/3rd of the time so it's pretty good value. Maybe they can even swing the Vermette and get Boyle to sign in NJ come July 1.
one more solid PK'er for the Preds. also a net presence on the PP if they chose to use him there. For a team that has most thing needed for a cup run, this is a really good depth move.
They do still really need one more top six difference maker. They lack a real offensive game changer beyond FF

Dreger just tweeted this....
Hearing Nashville isn’t done yet. Stay tuned.
....gotta love trade season.
McLeod won't help a cup run at all. The last thing a contending team needs is a player who can't even play a regular fourth-line role due to limitations.

That's weird news about McLeod.
I thought it was odd that Nashville rostered goon Zac Rinaldo when they already had Austin Watson.
It's almost as if NAS wants to feel like having a fighter helps them be a better team.
Maybe somebody (Lavs? Poile?) feels like having a tough guy makes for a better lockerroom? More confidence?
Of note: It was just announced that Rinaldo is out for season with shoulder surgery, so the goon effect does seem intentional: McLeod replacing Rinaldo's "role".
Eff me, thought the league was done with pure goons. I'm hoping Nashville loses if this is the way they feel.
As a devils fan dad to see him go. He is a superstar and a team player
