Regardless a good deal, and one the Leafs needed.

I think they look to include Zaitsev and Kapanen or Lindholm to possibly add another D..... get a D with term, Gardiner leaves in the off season

Mathews signs for 5 years, lower AAV, so does Marner,......

I thought Martinez was playing RD, might be wrong about that.

Mostly copying your quote to say I remember Dubas saying Kapanen isn’t going anywhere and so far he’s had a no BS approach so I’d trust him on that. An intelligent, high effort player with skill who gives it all regardless of the line or role he’s put on and probably won’t have crazy contract demands is someone worth keeping around.

Makes Hall for Larsson look even worse. This is a win for the leafs imo.

Serious question and no ill intent, is there any trade that makes the Hall/Larson deal look good? Like, really???

As an aside; The comparable Nylander used in his contract negotiations was Draisatl. Another bad deal by the same GM as the Hall deal. Now that Chiarelli is canned will these trades and contracts be viewed as the outliers they should be? Like all of Milburys moves?

Ultimately it’s a good trade for both teams. I like it more for the Leafs since they take home the most projectible piece but the Kings do need some decent young players and that’s always a gamble.

Anyway, I’ve read good and bad reviews on both sides so far which is often the sign of a fair deal.

nice move getting him so soon as opposed to deadline day ; perhaps more teams selling should take this route .

Really like this deal, and just some thoughts on it:
-it's a bad deal if Muzzin can't play 19min a game somehow. He needs to be out there on the PK, and at worst meshes amazingly with Gardiner
-Hainsey/Dermott will actually be a solid pair as Hainsey can simply slide down, play less minutes, and play the exact same style.
-I think this is a solid haul by LAK, but I'm surprised they couldn't get anything more. Like at best they get 3 full time NHLers, but a more likely outcome is 1...
-First time since 2009 Toronto won't have a 1st rounder (Kessel deal)
-Toronto gets 1 of 5 NHL d-men who have 20+ points and 100+hits
-Muzzin actually blocks shots too (96 I think)
-Critics will finally shut up about the D situation in Toronto
-Critics will finally see how poor the Toronto forwards are breaking out as they can't just blame the D now.

I’ve been saying this for several years now. Not only is it more beneficial for buying teams but it’s great for the fans. I’d much rather prefer to have a few trades per week leading up to the deadline as opposed to all the trades happening in one day. It gives us time to digest the trades and discuss them. Has James Duthie started begging GM’s to hold off on trading for his TV special yet?

Also forgot to say it sets the market for Carolina.

If you can believe the hockey insiders (it is hard to these days), it seems like they want an overpayment. A Johnsson + or Kapanen + for Pesce or Faulk. I much rather prefer Muzzin to those two, especially at a cheaper cost.

Pesce is under contract for another 6yrs, Slavin under for 7yrs, and Hamilton under for 3yrs. Prolly the reason why. Faulk...Yeah I dunno why. They prolly just are looking for NHLer forwards right now.

Leafs now are spending 30% of the cap on their D, 6th most in the league.

Muzzin wore 6 in LA, 6 is retired in Toronto, wonder what he wears.

I don't understand the deal from LA's perspective, especially given the meh return. He's legit top 4, something that has been demonstrated to be valuable in this league based on what other GMs have paid (Hamonic, e.g.), on a good contract for what Muzzin offers, and I don't see a mass of young d-men waiting the crack the LA lineup.

    - He won't play 19min/gm... it'll be closer to 24. He's played for Babcock twice with Canada - he's going to get rope
    - a lot of leafs fans are upset at moving Grundstrom in the deal. 90% of comments though are 'it's too much. I really liked him' - like as a value.
-Critics won't shut up - they'll simply move from the top pair to Zaitsev &/or Gardiner being IN the 2nd pair. Really.

Can finally throw Marincin on waivers tomorrow.
Gave up Grundstrom who I like and will be a serviceable NHLer but likely a bottom 6 guy.
First round pick will be in the 25-28 range at best.
And I’d be lying if I said I knew much of anything about Durzi.

I like this trade... a whole lot!
These are my thoughts. Admittedly I haven't watched LA this year but if Muzzin is anything like he's been the past few seasons I love this deal for Toronto.

I really don't see anything wrong with the deal.

The best part might be that they made it in January! Teams are finally starting to realize that making "deadline deals" earlier is beneficial to everyone involved.

So no press conference or any sort of media availability today from Dubas regarding the trade?

I wonder if we’ll see Marincin on waivers at noon?
