One of my friends asked me over Christmas who I wanted the Leafs to get and we decided on Muzzin. As long as he can transition to the right side and play on a pair with Reilly, this works really well.

if not.. he'll at least be able to pair with Gardiner and take a bit of the pressure off of him moving the puck up the ice. Regardless. Leafs landed a solid 2-way top 4dman they desperately needed

Affordable $4M cap hit under contract next season.
Didn’t give up Kapanen or Johnsson.
Didn’t give up Liljegren or Sandin.
    Replaces Gardiner next season.
Can finally throw Marincin on waivers tomorrow.
Gave up Grundstrom who I like and will be a serviceable NHLer but likely a bottom 6 guy.
First round pick will be in the 25-28 range at best.
And I’d be lying if I said I knew much of anything about Durzi.

I like this trade... a whole lot!

At best a #4Dman. Seeing as it wasn't his first draft, and was 20 Oct 21, I was really surprised he didn't stick with the Marlies. I'm fairly certain that was an option for him (if I'm wrong well... OHL clearly). He was a Dubas favorite going into the draft.

I love that Muzzin is under control next year at $4m. during their main cap crunch season. He brings a couple deep playoff runs to the club too, some experience duly needed for these playoffs. Need #1 addressed. To hopefully be able to move Hainsey down the line up, or shore up Gardiner/take stress off -

either way - massive hole file.

See it as a solid deal for both sides... with Toronto getting the piece they really needed (with a bit of term) and LA getting a "decent" haul for Muzz. Does this move make T.O.'s D corps tops? Of course not. But they just became a much tougher out imo.

Grund is a player, not a top level fantasy guy necessarily (but there's a chance he becomes the 3rd wheel, Hyman-styles, on a top 6 line), but he is a "safe" and serviceable NHL prospect. And while the (likely) late 1st is of course a dart, that's exactly what you want/need when rebuilding/retooling. Durzi is a solid add for LA too, as their prospect pool on D was pretty desperate for RHD men with some upside.

Not a "home run" for LA, but a solid deal nonetheless.

If more GMs were willing to do these kind of "fair" deals more often, we'd have a lot more trades to speculate/deliberate on. Kudos to Blake and Dubas for making Monday more exciting than just Oleksiak back to Dallas!

Good trade for both sides. Muzzin becomes Toronto's 2nd best Dman in my opinion. He brings qualities that they were lacking like grit and toughness in their own end plus the ability to get the puck out of their own end. Freddy is going to love him for that.

LA gets youth which appears to be the way they are heading.

If the kids the Kings got pan out, this is a win-win.

Really important that they got him as early as they did. If all goes well they have 33 games with which to experiment where Muzzin fits best. Be it with or without Rielly, on the left or the right.

I really like this as an Andersen owner and I don’t know much about the guys TO shipped out but this looks like a steal for them overall.

Hasnt Muzzin been playing on the right hand side with Martinez, who also shoots left? I think so.....

Regardless a good deal, and one the Leafs needed.

I think they look to include Zaitsev and Kapanen or Lindholm to possibly add another D..... get a D with term, Gardiner leaves in the off season

Mathews signs for 5 years, lower AAV, so does Marner,......

dammit.... I need to shovel again.....

Great move by both sides, although I think LA could have gotten a tad more because Muzzin has a good # and 2 years on it. That said not bad. Also, this solves the crisis the Leafs were facing next year about losing Gardiner. Muzzin isn't as good a puck mover but he does have a some offensive spark. He can shoulder the minutes Garinder will leave behind. Also Muzzin is a Good Ontario Boy (TM) and might be interested in sticking around, especially when the team is good.
