    Default 2019 European Free Agents

Which European free agents are likely to draw interest from NHL teams this year? And which ones are potentially worth adding in fantasy hockey leagues? Hopefully my new article on that topic can answer those questions for you.

Some really good stuff in here.. The one I'm most interested in, and I think everyone else is as well.

    Nikita Gusev
KHL contract is up this year
Hits UFA status on July 1, if he's coming

Will Gusev finally make the jump?

and if he does... can he have a Dadanov/Panarin level impact?

For hits/pim leagues - Tryamkin was showing interest to return to the Canucks last year. His 2yr deal ends this spring

I think that Tryamkin has a 3 year deal in Russia, still being under contract for 1 more year after this one. He would not return until the 2020/21 season. He is stashed on the farm in my super deep dynasty league.

I knew this! lol. I keep processing Tryamkin as 2yrs in my head, even though I've read most of those links in the past.

I've been finding myself doing lots of research in all major leagues and that Kaski guy never come across him before. Love these deep dives as my league is deep as well!

Gusev's KHL contract expires but he's not an UFA in the NHL. Vegas holds his rights indefinitely. I have no idea what he wants to do but if he wants to play in the NHL, it has to go through Vegas - either sign with them or they trade his rights.

I do think he can have Dadonov like impact.

doesn't Vegas lose his rights once he turns 27? This I believe I've heard reported on TSN & Sportsnet in the past

No, since there is no transfer agreement between the NHL and KHL any team drafting a player out of Russian programs holds their rights in perpetuity. Gusev merely becomes a "UFA" in the sense that he isn't bound by ELC stipulations.

edit: I should add that a Russian player can become a true UFA if they've signed an NHL contract. Ex. if Tryamkin stays in the KHL until he's 27 the Canucks will lose his rights.

Dennis is correct here. Most people don't know about the rule because this is the first time it's ever been relevant.
