Default Yahoo Fantasy "Cheat" I Discovered

    Hey guys,

So I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but I've received some great feedback from this forum since I discovered it not long ago, so I decided I might as well post about this "trick" (or cheat, depending on how you look at it) in case some people are unaware. I wasn't really sure what forum this belonged in, so I chose one-year pools, but this would work in all Yahoo pools as far as I am aware.

Basically what you can do in Yahoo pools is a trick with your IR spots in order to attain a roster larger than your settings allow for and gain an advantage in the playoffs if you plan ahead accordingly. Here is how the trick works:

Our pool has 17 roster slots, one IR slot, and one IR+ slot.
If you have a full roster of 17 and also have a guy in your IR and IR+ slots as well, then you can do this trick if one more player on your roster becomes injured. You need to have one more injured player than the total amount of IR slots your pool allows.
So you take your two players on IR and your one active player with IR status, and you click far ahead into your pool schedule, into the timeframe where all three players will have become healthy and active again. When viewing these days far ahead in your schedule (preferably your playoff weeks) you swap the injured players that are active and have a game that day out into your active slots, and swap an injured player that does not play back into your IR/IR+ slot. Yahoo allows you set your roster well in advance, and when the players come off of IR, it does not force you to reset your settings at all.

What this allows you to do is have the "injured" player active and the inactive player put back into your IR slots throughout the entire week, effectively giving you more active players than your settings will allow. In my pool we have a roster limit of 17 players, but with two on IR/IR+ and one swapped in and out every day, I could effectively go into the playoff weeks with 19 active skaters every week, which is a pretty huge advantage if you ask me. If you performed this trick with two hit/PIMS specialists swapped in and out, you could easily clinch those stats vs players with "average" cat coverage and achieve a much higher likelihood of success (in my opinion). It could also easily become the deciding factor if done with a goalie.

It's unfair, and I would classify it as cheating, and I personally wouldn't abuse this "glitch" just out of sportsmanship, but at least with more awareness people would be able to identify whether or not their opponents were doing this as well.

Cheers guys, good luck out there.

This works in fantrax as well.

The one downside to it is that for this "trick" to work all your other players have to remain healthy...because your roster is frozen. And you can't make any pick ups or streams. And you have to guess which goalies will be starting in the future, which is not always easy to predict weeks in advance.

Started using this method in my h2h playoffs last year. It can be useful during the season but as mentioned it does have its limitations. I use it when I need to stave off a roster move sometimes.

For h2h playoffs I do it for week 1 if there are talented enough players available coming back from injury to start my first round. Takes a bit of time to look up the schedule and find 2 guys who are dtd who play on alternating nights, but it has been worthwhile. Ill just add that if you do this you want two players playing a lot earlier in the week, because you may have to abandon the plan if, say, you badly need a goalie pickup or something.

Always good to discuss h2h stategy, there are always a few tricks to Yahoo that you can exploit. I discovered another one a few months ago but I'm trying to remember what it was - wasn't a major glitch or anything, but I'll let you know if I remember. I think it may have been the same thing but with the NA spot - but a lot of leagues don't have a NA spot and the opportunity is rare.

12 team H2H Most Cats Wins; Keep 6/winner keeps 7; G A PPP +/- SHP SOG HIT BLK PIM // W SV GAA SV% SHO
    3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 6D, 2G, 5 bench

    C - McDavid, Crosby, Tavares
    LW - DeBrincat
    RW - Meier, Miller
    D -
    G - Jarry

with fantrax it depends on the injured reserve enforcement setting the league uses via the premium features - said features also have a X number of days s league chooses to use as to when a player has to come off .

in rob's keeper $$ league he uses the setting in which even if you set it days in advance and a guy comes off IR you get nailed with an illegal roster suddenly which makes a bit more sense while playing for some coin I suppose

I had a manager discover this last season during the playoffs in the PQMC and he was good enough to tell me the situation and ask permission to use this “cheat”. I saw no problem with it. If yahoo allows it, who am I to say no to it? Just shows how tuned in some managers are, which I like.

I can only see this being beneficial during the playoffs or if it's involving very good players.

Yeah it's mostly only beneficial during the playoffs, but it could be used here and there throughout the season if you've got an injury ridden squad. Our league is usually extremely close come playoff time and I've seen teams miss by a couple points a few years in a row now.

But just as food for thought, right now Boone Jenner and William Carrier are DTD and IR respectively. If one had a guy on their squad that was injured, he could in theory pick those guys up, stash them on IR/IR+, and set his roster through the playoffs. Our playoffs start in four weeks, so even if you had to make adjustments between now and then, you could feasibly continue to keep your roster set so that you could have two extra skaters that both hit a lot going into the playoffs.
Those two guys being extra skaters for a full week could easily result in 25+ extra hits for the week, which would be massive in our league.
