Rantanen's removal from Saturday's game against the Kings was due to precautionary reason, according to the Avalanche's official team twitter account.

Advice: Rantanen left Saturday's game due to a lower-body injury, but he was simply held out as a precaution. We will keep him active for now and let you know if his status changes.

I didn't watch the 3rd period because the game was over by that time. But he may have hurt his groin a bit on that 2nd goal. His legs were split pretty far apart. He played the next shift, though. But that could be why he was held out as a precaution.
