    Default Mid season awards

    Norris: Giordano
    Vezina:Fleury
    Art Ross: Kuch
    Hart: McDavid

I’m not asking for the Calder because you know who it is...
If the oilers make the playoffs, McDavid have my vote for the Hart but there is nothing sure here. All the top players in points plays with elite linemates and I think Connor doesn’t have that chance.

    What’s yours?

Hard to argue with anything you said. I think they're all the front runners right now.

But I'll add the Jack Adams and I hope it's Cooper.

yeah I forgot the coaches! Cooper is my choice too, the Bolts are just killing it so far.

There’s no vote for the Ross but I’ll say Rantanen and Laine for the Richard.

For the Richard , it would be fun anybody except Ovi no? I would love to see Skinner win it!

I don’t see how any player on a team which is not in playoff contention, should be considered for the Hart.

Agreed. I thinks it's easily Kucherov.

I dont agree with the whole "you have to get into the playoffs to win this". I think it's pretty clear who the Most Valuable Player is to their team and clearly it's McDavid in Edmonton. It's not his fault Chiarelli has built a house of cards around him.

I agree to an extent, but to be fair, if a team doesn't make the playoffs with you then what's the outcome if they didn't have you.. still miss the playoffs.

Exactly but lets be completely honest, you could easily argue that McDavid is the "most valuable player" to his team. Imagine how bad this team would be with out this kid. The award isn't "the most valuable player to lead your team into the playoffs", it's the Most Valuable Player award. Period.

The shine is off the Oilers. McDavid is truly one the best to ever play the game but his team sucks...with it without him the result is the same. And he’s won it before on that crap team. The writers will pick someone new. The team doesn’t need to make the playoffs but they need be made appreciably better (which will be a standings thing...think about who votes for these things...) by that player. Kucherov will not win the Hart and Cooper will not win the Adams. They are both outstanding but are pieces of a wonderfully assembled team and a team that SUPPOSED to be really good. That doesn’t win the Adams nor the Hart. Right now at the half way point my picks represent exactly how these things get voted on. Vancouver was supposed to be utter shite and they are right there in the hunt because of Pettersson. The Flames were supposed to fair to middling and they are rocking it...that’s what wins you the Adams. Heck Gaudreau is more likely to win the Hart than McDavid at this halfway point.

I do see what you are saying, Axe. This goes to my ongoing point on how the Hart trophy is truly an obscure idea. Measuring a player’s value to his team is very difficult to do and extremely subjective. ‘Most valuable’ and ‘best’ are not the same thing.

In McDavid’s situation, there is even a point to be made that he could actually be the least valuable to his team. If the Oiler’s barely miss the playoffs, he is SO valuable to his team that not only did they miss the playoffs, but he single handedly made the difference between the Oil finishing in 21st place overall, and finishing in 30th place. What does that mean? A worse draft pick. If McDavid wasn’t so good, the Oilers would receive a higher pick. So, with that perspective, because he is as good as he is, he is actually the least valuable player in the league.

Truthfully, there are probably 5 or 6 players that deserve the Hart trophy, but for each of them there are arguments for and against. It is hard to give it to Kucherov when there's Point...Gaudreau when there's Monahan...Mackinnon when there's Rantanan...McDavid when there's Lucic...oh wait.
