WWE legend Eugene “Mean Gene” Okerlund, who entered the Hall of Fame in 2006 after making his mark as the go-to interviewer in the wrestling world, has died. He was 76.

The WWE announced news of his death Wednesday, dubbing him “the most recognizable interviewer in sports-entertainment history.”

Okerlund joined the WWE in 1984 after spending several years interviewing stars like Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Hulk Hogan with the American Wrestling Association (AWA).

As the WWE took off, so did Okerlund’s career, as he continued to make a name for himself by chatting ringside with stars like Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior.
