If someone were to have picked a player not actually playing in the WJC, like Chytil, would that someone be S.O.L.? Asking for a friend...

@VV - Thanks! Thankfully I built it well last year so could reuse that shell, and reveeta had a nice foundation.

@bergman - Yup, unfortunately Happens every year with a stud that ends up not going but was listed on preliminary rosters in case of. That information was thankfully up when I made the sign-up sheets though, so a quick google would have helped you out. That said I think like 6 to 8 people did that one too, so you're not alone!

Thanks. One day doesn't mean much but it's a nice start.

Looking over the rosters it seems that Quinn Hughes is the only one on every single list so his points (however many he gets) essentially don't count.

    Other highly selected players:

    Aleksi Heponiemi - 35/37
    Evan Bouchard - 35/37
    Henri Jokiharju - 33/37
    Erik Brannstrom - 33/37
    Rasmus Kupari - 32/37
    Klim Kostin - 32/37
    Maxime Comtois - 29/37
    Oliver Wahlstrom - 27/37
Adam Boqvist, Martin Kaut, Grigori Denisenko, Owen Tippett, Ukko-Pekka Luukonen - 26/37

Luukonen comes in as the top goalie owned.

Loving the spread that we got on Captain ownership:

    Jack Hughes - 12/37
    Martin Necas - 7/37
    Eeli Tolvanen - 6/37
    Vitali Kravtsov - 5/37
    Cody Glass - 4/37
    Filip Zadina - 3/37

Every possible Captain has backers, and in fairly even dispersion. That's what you want so count this as a success.

Hopefully that Ylonen pick (1/37) helps you out, Bergy.

Also only two guys picked up Samorukov (RUS) - hoping he can be a difference maker for me as much as he is primed to be for RUS. A lot more teams went for Alexeyev, I see. Let's see which one of the two carries the back end for Mother Russia this tourney -- perhaps the duo ends up turning into Russia's version of Brannstrom/Boqvist.

And with how many people ended up picking the other 2 considerations (Heponiemi, Kostin), it certainly is doing what it's supposed to. Helps there's no McDavid/Eichel/Matthews/Kaprizov type of talent this year too.

I think this year was exceptional in terms of quite a few D being on most teams (Bouchard, Boqvist, Brannstrom, Hughes, Jokiharju), but that's usually rare enough (I don't remember D being as clear cut in previous years, they used to be my filler!). Almost seemed like goalies were the filler crapshoot to "take the guy from one of these 4 countries after I focus elsewhere" thanks to all the question marks and lack of clear cut tournament favorites otherwise.

Looking at last year, the most common players were: Pettersen, two goalies, Kyrou and three defensemen, so this somewhat confirms my suspicion that defense has little in the way of variety each year.

With those numbers, it almost seems like there should be a captain category for D's as well. Quite a number on most lists...

Maybe, but at the same time I think the D also tend to mess with which forwards you pick. Sometimes it would be better to take 4f, 1g from the country than to take the top D they have.

Maybe a 6F, 3D split captains would work, but in previous years the goalies weren't as varied as this one. This year was really obvious with those big 4 (Hughes, Bouchard, Jokiharju and Brannstrom), but it's not uncommon to see 3 of them and even with captains, see forwards at the top (See - Heponiemi, Kupari, Kostin, Comptois being on over 75%). You're always going to have big names show up, but you win on the fringes regardless.

    Anyhow, update!

Axeman continues with a strong day 2. Decided to be a bit fancy and create the 'comparator' sheet - an easy way to compare your team against the best, or the team you're chasing, or fending off! Switch the team using the drop-down menu in the yellow cells and it'll load up your team right then and there!

Note that there is a 38th team (somehow missed that e-mail!), and I had allowed a grace period to pick a player (who hadn't scored a ton of points by the time he picked - no more than 1) since he had submitted a list counting his captain as one of the 12 forwards.

Link is the same as yesturday, but here it is regardless:

Ah, so you were the anonymous moose!

Do you mean Filip Lindberg's? Based on the play-by-play he was the goalkeeper out, which is generally a good indicator of who was playing in net.

My bad if Lindberg was indeed in goal!

You are definitely the man for this job, Nights!! I'll never doubt you again
