Default Help for 2019 WJC Pool! (Captsins!)

    Hello gents,

I've been busy this year (...so many things - all trending positively though) but I am indeed alive and ready to run the nth (9? 10? 2019!) edition of the annual Dobber WJC pool. Rosters are slowly starting to get announced so I'll be able to prepare the sign-up sheet soon enough (I hope).

I do want to ask all of you for a bit of help though. The pool usually has a set of 6 captains - players who are in their own special 'box' which each team can only pick 1 from - and honestly I haven't had the chance to follow much of who's who in the prospect world since the draft. I was wondering if I could crowd-source you guys for a bit of help there.

Can you all help identify a few of the big names that should be considered for the Captain designation? I'll try to find time before Thursday (Dec 20th) to comb through everything (if enough rosters are out to make sense) and start the thread for the pool in the 'FREE Dobber Sports Challenges' section, so keep an eye out for that!

Here's last year's thread if you wanted to see the rest of the rules.

Here would be my choices (in alphabetical order):

    Cody Glass- CAN
    Eeli Tolvanen- FIN
    Jack Hughes- USA
    Vitali Kravtsov- RUS
    Martin Necas- CZE
    Filip Zadina- CZE

If they were not captains, I think these six would be on every reasonable roster, which is what you want from your captains. There are other candidates of course, but I don't think there are any glaring omissions.

EDITED: Tolvanen in for Heponiemi since he's been loaned.

We're still waiting on release info for guys like Zadina, Necas and Tolvanen, but I mostly agree with the above list.

The Red Wings confirmed they would allow Zadina to participate but he was also injured recently so that may change things.

I knew Zadina was confirmed and thought Necas was too, my bad. If Tolvanen ends up being loaned then swap him for Heponiemi if it's before you make up the spreadsheets/your personal dealine. I just went by who I thought was confirmed at this moment.

    I mostly agree with this.

CAN - lots of options here. Glass, Vilardi, Comtois, Tippett, Suzuki...
FIN - Heponiemi and Tolvanen are likely the two best options
USA - J. Hughes and Robertson would be my top choices, although I guess Q. Hughes could be an option as well
RUS - Kravtsov and Kostin are likely the top two options
CZE - Necas and Zadina are likely the top two here

I would also add Lundestrom from Sweden.

Another vote for this list. Although I'd add tolvanen (possibly instead of heponiemi) if he winds up playing in the tournament. And maybe kostin, as there's a very good chance he winds up on everyone's roster if he isn't a captain. No else who really jumps out as someone that everyone would have on their roster. At least among the forwards...

On that topic, would anyone be interested in having a separate captain on defence? I think it's safe to assume that 99 percent of teams, at least, will have evan bouchard, Quinn Hughes, Erik brannstrom, Alexander alexeyev on their teams. Good chance a lot will have Adam boqvist as well. However, if we could only choose one of these guys it would really spice things up.

You can add Jokiharju to that list of defence captains I suggested. The Blackhawks released him for the tournament. If we don't have a defence captain as well as a forward captain, there's a very good chance that everyone's defence will be exactly the same.

    GET WELL SOON, DOBBER.

Veleno has been playing on the 4th line so far and neither Power-Play. I'm not even sure he'd make it in my top-10 choices for Canada's (Pool) Captain.

Just finished the list, so going to be posting it up in the free challenges section with all the rules soon.

I don't really trust the rosters I had but the TSN ones were the closest thing I had to an easy 'all of them are here' list, even if they were missing some of the players like Jokiharju, Tolvanen, Lundestrom
