Fast Players Ageing and Regression Timelines specifically McDavid

Just curious and I thought I would reach out to the community to get their opinion on this. When I look at Crosby's game vs McDavid he's so strong and good at making plays in tight. While McDavid winds up and uses his speed to beat opponents while making plays at these ridiculous speeds.

Now I know McDavid won't or shouldn't at least see any decline for the next decade but will he be less in his twilight years then guys like a Crosby, Ovechkin or a Jagar who have enduring skills outside of sheer quickness? I mean in 10 years if the game catches up or if he loses a half a step does this nullify McDavids advantage? I don't think he suddenly becomes a 4th liner, I still think he will be great but will he stand the test of time in your opinion as well as some players before him who seemed to have a more rounded game?

Generational players learn to adapt and it's part of what makes them great. McDavid will do just that.

Hockey is one of those sports where age doesn't kill a players speed. Yes they slow down, but it's not like football where a player just drops off.

Issues with speed and aging in hockey is bigger with guys like Stone and Bobby Ryan. The ones who aren't great skaters lose that step that make them keep up with others, they now are just behind everywhere.

High end talent with speed will be fine as they age

It might be a concern if speed was his only skill... even if he did lose a half to a full step as he ages he’ll still be a good to great skater.
