Second opinion

This is my first year playing fantasy hockey (f. football for years) and I wanted to get some opinions. I just took over for an inactive manager in a keeper (borderline dynasty) league, keep 11. In my opinion this team is 100% capable of winning now but maybe I’m just not used to the game...

So what do you think, do I sell the farm to win now or do I try to get picks/younger guys and build for the future. Clearly I don’t need a full rebuild.

Unfortunately, I started in a bit of a hole (third in div, fifth in league) due to the previous owner having multiple IR players in live roster slots. I should still be able to pull into a better seed, there’s only one team I think will be competing with me if all goes as it looks on paper

I'd have no issue moving McAvoy, or moving any player + draft picks for a short-term improvement. I'd want one heck of a return for Pettersen though. You should be asking or an irrational return. (Put him on your trade block; then come back here and tell us about the offers you are getting)….Good luck

Tbh I was thinking packaging EP with a pick and going for MacKinnon or something... so they are probably thinking equally irrational

I would not be moving Pettersson without a monster return - guy is elite and performing exceedingly well. Could do just as much damage as whoever you acquire for him this year... you’d really have to vet trade offers on this board to make that move. If I had Pettersson in a 10 team, 11 keeper points league it would take a ridiculous offer for me to move him even in a win now. And even then I might not do it.

McAvoy is trade fodder imo...

Biggest issue I think rn is Bergeron and Forsberg injuries. Do you have moves to stream or are these limited.

So I put him on the block and received an offer for EP and McAvoy getting Burns and Nylander, which I’m not accepting, but I am considering countering with EP, McA, Voracek and a 3rd for Burns, Nylander, Landeskog and maybe a 7th (picks must be equal in number). I’ll probably get rejected but do you think this is moving in the right direction?

Swapping McAvoy with Burns will make my D the absolute best in the league bar none (starting 4: Burns, Reilly, Carlson, Letang)

EP has 32 points in 27 games rn as a rookie - that’s a 97 point pace as a 20 yo player - what will he do in year 3 after 2 more years in the league? Beat it MacK and McD, we’ve got a new Art Ross winner maybe? I’d keep EP as those trade offers aren’t anywhere close to a monster return you’d need for the upside EP provides. I’d love to get EP off you for that Burns and Landeskog are expendable for an EP return... If I was trading him I’d think what would it take to acquire MacK and start there
