Default Reaves ejected for hit on Wilson

First thing out of the way, its late, most definitely. It looks terrible in the edge of the frame but the replay shows its solid shoulder to shoulder. I would think no suspension right? honestly don't feel like this deserved an ejection but I suppose I could be convinced...I mostly have zero sympathy because its Wilson. But still...late hit but shoulder to shoulder.

The refereeing needs a serious overhaul. It just keeps getting worse.

Lets hope this ejection doesn't send a message. Hitting is still part of the game after all and that was as clean a hit as i've seen. If that was late, then I would guess that about 75% of hits should result in ejections.

I mentioned this in an other article regarding the Bertuzzi suspension. There wasn't one penalty called in that whole melee that included 2 Red Wings holding Calverts stick (2 unsportmanlike penalties). Calvert spearing a Red Wing on the bench (5 and a game for spearing). A sucker punch from Bertuzzi while a linesman was just 3' away (instigating), and a bunch of shoving and roughing (more unsportsmanlike). Not one penalty! That is why that crap will continue.

Was a little late, though not egregiously so, but that's about it. If he hit his head at all, it was on the ice as he went down.

Can't imagine there being a suspension on that one given he was ejected. That should be enough of a punishment.

Reaves got his 5 minute penalty and shouldn’t get suspended. I think the same criteria should be used in not giving out a suspension as the Wilson hit on Seney.

Btw I am not a Caps fan, but I am a Wilson fan so I just hope he’s not out long. Looks like a concussion so who knows how long he’s gone.

I think the Seney hit was worse. Pretty sure there will be nothing else from the league.

I just saw the hit after reading the ramblings. Honestly, that hit didn't seem all that bad to me. Shoulder to shoulder. I suppose it was a split second too late, but I'm surprised he got a penalty and I will be even more surprised if he is suspended.

Honestly, I think Wilson was guilty of watching his pass and not paying attention on the ice. Because he was looking at his pass, he was caught off guard and his head hit the ice. Reaves didn't hit him from behind and he didn't hit Wilson's head. To me, that was a clean shoulder-to-shoulder check.

The fact that the hit was against Wilson will cause some people to be biased, but I have no opinion one way or the other about Wilson.

It's kind of comical how flip floppy people are when it comes to judging hits like these. I'm sure if this was P. Kane, Johnny Hockey, or someone of that nature on the receiving end, the tone would be much different.

Reaves is in the clear according to Bob Mckenzie.

One can only hope that Tom Wilson will finally "get it".

Ramblings say it's dirty, but I disagree. Late, yes, but no hit to the head, and Reaves didn't take any extra strides either.

And what if Wilson was under 6 feet tall?

    The league is a joke.

Not quite sure what do you mean if Wilson was under 6'? You see a player, and you hit a player and they are the size that they are. If he was under six feet tall and got hit in the head then it would be a very dirty hit, but he didn't...so its not. People have to play the size that they are, you can hit Chara a lot higher than you can hit Johnny Gaudreau. Not really sure I see your point.

The point is, like you said, you see a player and you hit a player & their size is their size. If this was Johnny hockey who's like 5'8" and Reaves sees him and hits him, the check is to his head. Are you now saying player must bend down and put themselves in a vulnerable position in order to not hit someone "high".

If you are going to hit a guy from the side and he is short and you are going drive your shoulder into his head , then I do think that you let up and don't take his head off. I am not sure if this is what you are asking. Blindside hits to the head are not allowed, for good reason, I feel like I am missing the point honestly. I don't ask this sarcastically, but is the point you are making that all hits should be allowed and we should not worry about headshots? Or that because the hit on Wilson would have been a head shot on Gaudreau, then the hit on Wilson should not be allowed?

Such a silly point. Yes, in order for the hit to be "legal", a part of that is that you have to not hit his head. This means, that you can hit taller people higher than you can hit shorter people. The relevant question needs to be "did you hit him in the head?", not "how tall is he". It's a little baffling to me, to be honest.
