Did he ever really have much Fantasy value though? I can see in a deep dynasty league but other than that he’s been a let down. Owners have been waiting for him to crack the Pens lineup regularly.

In deep leagues, fantasy GM's live on hope!

Haha, good point. If I’m a Sprong owner in a dynasty league, the move to Anaheim would give me new hope. Unfortunately Anaheim’s wings are clogged though.

Sprong is just 21, needs time to figure things out. Penguins give up on him way too quickly.

Exactly. The kid put up a PPG season in the AHL, and has never been giving a real shot to make it in the big league. I mean, people still hang onto hope that D. Strome will figure it out so why not Sprong!

Strome and Sprong are born 10 days apart, so feels a bit weird Sprong is getting a free pass but Strome doesn't...

Sprong wasn't drafted #3 overall or expected to become an instant NHLer. Different patience levels for a second round pick with a high but uncertain upside.

Just because he was drafted 3rd overall doesn't mean he should be an instant NHLer. 3pts in 4 games in Chicago. Maybe once Sprong gets an opportunity, he will show signs of life as well.

Just trying to provide JP with an explanation for the differing tolerances amongst poolies.

It is indeed weird to see different players from the same draft get different reactions for the same pace of development...the only variable really is where they went in that draft.

Is this warranted? No. These are 21 year-olds...they're barely adults at this stage in life.

Still...you get drafted at #3, you get assigned an earlier ETA vs the guy drafted at #41 whether it's merited or not.

Absolute snipe in his first game with the ducks.

^Nice looking goal... but kind of weird that Crawford looks like he immediately feels that puck coming for his neck/head & turtles his head away/down.

We always over-magnify scoring in a player's first games of season... or first games with a new team.
My favourite example of this is David Perron - who comes out gunning at the start of every season, or the first 5-10 games when changing teams.
    Then... he's David Perron again.

I DO like that Sprong got 4sog.
(though often teams/coaches/GMs are trying to build confidence by telling a player "Just shoot the puck, whenever you have a chance... shoot it.")
Nothing builds a young player's confidence like finding the back of the net.

The subtle celebration was a good "tell" for me too.
Players that go ape-shit after they score suggests (to me) that they are thrilled the puck went in.
Sprong raises his stick, but he's not jumping around like some kids.
This suggests that he expects to score... that this was going to happen eventually... it's a sign I really like to see.

    Good on him.
I might sign him up in a 1-year league if he keeps it going.

(Silfv should be on the way out in Anaheim. Been such a disappointment. My patience for that guy has run out. Needs a change of scenery badly.)
