DeSmith is playing well... Jarry will be the back up unless he falls apart.

Blessing in disguise for DeSmith owners, or does Jarry start taking the reins?
Year-long points pool (G/A, hat trick, W, SO). Keep top 6 players out of 16.

Huh? The real question is whether or not Desmith is a threat to the #1 job, not whether or not he's falling to #3. Of course anything can happen especially with the Penguins being so shit of late but as it stands right now Desmith is a 1B goalie. The crease is his to lose while Murray is out.

colour me surprised
Apparently Murray has had a lower-body injury "for weeks" and will be out "longer--term" according to Sullivan.
Murray reminds me of Rick Dipietro for **** sake. I wouldn't want anything to do with him in any of my leagues.

Crazy how quickly things change in the NHL. A year ago Murray was considered a top-end goalie. Now...
Not-so-crazy thought: What if the Penguins move on with a Desmith/Jarry tandem and use the asset/cap to improve elsewhere?

"Injured".... riiiiiiiight. They're more than likely shutting him down until he figures out where he lost his game.
Desmith reminds me of Rittich. Don't get me wrong... I love these feel good stories of players/goalies coming out of no where and finding success (shout out to Yanni Gourde... a SF Bull alumni). They are playing well, for sure, but there is very little invested into them (as Dobber said, Desmith is a "house of cards"). Them playing well is a bonus for everyone involved and buys time for the real, invested prospects to progress through the ranks.
True, if he plays well, he will continue getting starts... but one or two poor outings and you can bet that coaching/management turns to Jarry -- I think the long-term job is his to lose at the end of the day.
Same goes for CGY - scouts/management spent a handful of high-draft picks on young goalies... long-term, they will be getting forced into the lineup eventually if/once Rittich starts to falter. Short term, they keep giving their all-star/UFA signing, Mike Smith, a chance to rebound back into form.

With 2 sets of back-to-backs within this next week, Jarry will definitely get his shot to play.
These next 4 games for Pitt will be important to see which way they lean goaltending wise.

Hmm.. Desmith should be starter for now, but Jarry put in some good games last year, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he overtakes Desmith, but could take a few weeks...
Luongo or DeSmith? Counting 2 pts per W and SO?
