Default Was Saturday the deathknell for MATT MURRAY?

GM came out in support of Murray before the game. Said he was going to keep giving him chances to right the ship.

Murray has been terrible at home but has had a few strong games on the road this season.

Road game in Ottawa was set-up for him to succeed... OTT has the worst PK in the league and PIT was supposed to be rallying behind him.

After 1 period, down 1-3, Murray is pulled and everything goes to hell. 3 even strength goals against. Can't blame the PK this time, folks.

DeSmith didn't exactly hold down the fort letting in some goals of his own, but can Murray/DeSmith owners finally just say... it's over.

Murray is not going to help your team this year. He has been destroying ratios that might possibly never recover over the next few months.

It's one thing if he is going regulation and giving up 4 or 5 a game. We could climb out from that hole.

But getting PULLED over and over is killing us!

    Is it over?

I’m think it just added to the split. Eventually Murray will get his game back but it might take a few months now

I still think Jarry is the best goalie the pens have. I don't think he will steal the crease this year, but long term I think it's his team.

Murray just isn't that good IMO.

I’m thinking about dropping him but my options to replace him are limited, but he’s definitely holding me back in my league this year. Not sure how long I can stay patient to wait for the Pens to turn it around, we are close to completing the first quarter of the season and it’s almost time for us Murray owners to make a decision.

The Penguins as a whole have been bad, not just Murray. I can see Sullivan getting the boot before long.

Like everyone else, my options on the wire are the standard: Grubauer, Khudobin, Koskinen, C Anderson and Ullmark.

They almost all look better than using Murray right now, but we have a max 4 G roster rule, and I am carrying 4 with Murray/DeSmith, Helleyeah and a streamer. Today the stream is Khudobin. Last night it was Koskinen, the night before Grubauer.

    It's ugly all around.

You’ll just have to hold onto Murray and try to enjoy the ride.

Seems a bit rash to call TOD on a 23-year-old who has won 2 Cups. In mid-November.

Sounds like I need to start asking about Murray in my keeper leagues. Owners seem to be properly fed up with him at this point.

I just traded FOR Murray in my dynasty league. I gave up Pacioretty, Voracek, and Mike Smith for Murray and Hoffman. My league counts SV and W, so im really only looking to improve the counting stats, anything else later on will be extra.

I like that deal for you very much. Murray will get back on track in the not too distant future. This is in large part a team issue - not saying Murray is without blame, but you can't pin all the blame on the goalie...says this 2 league Murray owner....(not biased at all)

This is definitely a question I had regarding him: Is he someone to disregard entirely or a solid buy low option? The injury history + poor season performances are starting to stack and it makes him scary to acquire. I just don't see how someone with stability in net would consider acquiring him right now (like would you trade someone like Bishop / Crawford / Raanta for Murray and little +?).

Deathknell, no. Alarm bell, absolutely. Pittsburgh is an offense-first team, and even when the team is going well, the goalies' performance is highly variable game to game, and prone to absolutely brutal games.

It's not over, but there may be a different guy getting the bulk of the starts for a bit, and that may mean he loses the job if DeSmith plays well enough. Murray was always vulnerable to having what he did to Fleury happen to him. He's a decent enough NHL goalie on a team that wins alot, has high expectations of winning, and often is involved in outscoring foes. It's really hard to be consistently great with that style of play, and he's not Hasek.

This has been such a roller coaster ride with Murray for me this season. I traded for him before the season (Tavares and Crawford for Murray and Tarasenko) in a deal that got mostly positive reviews on here at the time, but is painful a bit in hindsight. I am now stuck carrying 5 goalies on a team with 4 bench players and two goalie starts....hoping he rights it...I think he will....but every game is like a gut punch
