The New York #Rangers have retained $900k of Spooner's contract as per @FriedgeHNIC. This reduces his cap hit from $4M to $3.1M, which is equivalent to Strome's cap hit of $3.1M

This effectively results in no cap change for either team.

Yes, but they clearly went above & beyond the prior established level by dealing guys both named Ryan. Then they took it up a notch by having them both have last names that start with S.

In seriousness, Spooner has shown that he can provide good offense in the following situations: playing a sheltered role, or when joining a new team, or with elite linemates. The Oilers hit all 3 of these.

I'm curious where Spooner lines up in the roster. He's a natural center so most will assume him to take Strome's spot centering the 3rd line, but he's also a guy who can play the wing.
