His past year or so of hockey has been really impressive. Can't say he doesn't deserve another shot.

I just hope they called him up to play him and not just to block his exit. It would probably be much better for his development to be playing full time in the KHL as opposed to a glorified Jets' practice-squad player. Also, the KHL season is about half complete already, he could still come back to North America when Jokerit completes their season.

This is true. Jokerit also play in the same conference with powerhouses SKA and CSKA, so it's very unlikely they would advance to the final.

By the way, the thread title is incorrect. Vesalainen can't go back to the KHL because he's never played in that league...

The NHL has issues with AHL salaries on entry level deals. $70k is not a lot for people living life on the road, and even worse when compared to what other pro leagues offer. Plus he won't be reaching his NHL bonuses while in the minors. Meanwhile I', guessing he can earn $500k playing half a year in the KHL. I could be wrong on that figure but it won't be $70k.

It's official: the #NHLJets have reassigned Kristian Vesalainen from the Manitoba Moose to Jokerit, Finland, of the KHL.

Vesalainen is only eligible to return to the Jets once Jokerit's season ends in April.

Good move by the Jets. Keeps the player happy and keep him playing competitive hockey. Win-win.
