    Default Ellis

I can’t afford to keep dragging Ellis along in hopes he picks it up soon. I’m 2nd in my league right now, top 3 teams are super competitive so I could use a player that’s really helping me in my cats. 11 hits, 25 sog, 8 assists, 6 PIM, 1 PPP seems so underwhelming in comparison to players on the wire

list of avaiable d on the wire:

    Gudbranson
    Poink
    Seabrook
    Lajoie
    Fowler
    Oleksiak
    Vatanen
    Skjei
    jokiharju
    Cole
    Ekholm
    Miller
    Montour
    Larsson
    Lindholm

Either I drop him and pick up someone from that list, or I try to package Ellis and maybe Atkinson for a better defender. Who would you suggest to target, obviously not going to be high end talent with what I’m offering.

I'm not sure anyone on that list is a clear upgrade over Ellis. Chances are if you make a move for one of the available free agents you'll get a small increase in one or two cats but lose out in a couple others.

A trade would be your best bet if you can pull off a 2:1, but depending on the FA forward you get to replace Atkinson you could be making moves just to make moves.

My opinion is, hold tight, Ellis can go on a tear at any point and you'll be wishing you kept him. Remember, he just put up like 30 points in 40 games after coming back from his injury last year.

Right. That’s one thing I forgot to mention in my OP, am I just being to impatient? Which you basically answered. it’s my first year playing this type of format H2H cats. Being a little aggressive, to early possibly. Thanks for the feedback sauce.

Ellis can be streaky, and I'm also of the opinion no D is a clear upgrade right now on the FA market. All of them will probably have stretches of underwhelming performances, and likely you would have to stream between those choices without having much benefits over keeping Ellis.

He has the higher upside, so I would try to tough it out somehow if possible

I like Ellis, I just traded Petry and a 5th for Ellis and a 3rd. Ellis was able to get 32 points in 40 games last year, he has the skill, he is still getting ample playing time, he just is not getting the bounces right now. It will come I would be patient unless you can get a clear upgrade.

For a guy that has a career high of 38 pts, you'd think we were talking about an elite offensive defenseman. That's the thing with paces, paces can fall off at any moment, whereas 82 games is a sure thing. Looking at his underlying numbers, everything seems in line with his normal numbers, with the exemption of his personal shooting %. If he shot at his normal career shooting % (9%), he'd have 2 more goals. 10pts in 17 games seems about right.

If you have someone at sees his 32pts in 44 games last year as a buy low, I'd package Ellis for someone that doesn't hurt you in the other peripheries.
