Default What do you guys think about Mike Smith this year?

Ohh man, I am tired of inconsistency goaltending.
Every year I feel confident with my goalies after the draft.
Then after a month I just give up on my goaltending.

This is my first year in a keeper league and I started getting concerned about my goaltending again!
Mike Smith is my main concern because of his inconsistency.

I am not sure if I should hold on to him or quickly grab a young goalie like Saros or Ullmark.
He got the best paint job, but his goaltending is not.
Can he at least be a solid goalie this year?

I would grab Saros over Smith. He could become your best keeper between the pipes as early as next year and No chance Smith will be a keeper (you keep 10). What other goaltenders are available as a lttle suprised Saros is available with the recent injury to Rinne.

Grab Saros now and drop Smith, you can make additional changes later as needed...

I know that feel. I drafted Smith thinking I'd gotten a pretty solid #3 who plays a lot of off nights. Last night I snapped up Rittich because I'm already worried he'll lose starts to him, especially after his huge performance last night. With regards to Saros or Ullmark, I think I would just stick with Smith or maybe see if you can fit in Rittich as the handcuff for now. Saros and Ullmark will be sporadic starters (although Saros would be a nice own right now with Rinne out). The issue about dropping Smith now is I assume he will be picked up if/when he sorts it out and you won't be able to get him back. But with Saros you are looking at a couple weeks of solid play, then maybe 1 start a week from that point onward, which isn't so good in h2h. Or instead of Rittich you just add Saros and hope Smith sorts it out. Either way I don't know if dropping Smith this early is a good idea.

I wouldn't drop Smith. If anything I would drop a spare forward like Lindholm or Dubois. I'm just not sure that this move is needed though - why hasn't the Rinne owner snatched up Saros already? It's been like 4 days since the injury. I was going to suggest adding him and then flipping him for an upgrade, but if the demand isn't there then i don't see the point.

I did notice that your league is 25% goalie categories, with one being a complete crapshoot category (SO). Not much weight to goalies here.

The Rittich handcuff is probably the best choice. I have thought about dropping Smith and streaming a backup on occasion, but I only j
have 3 moves a week. Right now he sits unless I need a start late in the week.

I never draft Smitty for this reason. I'd grab Saros and drop an extra forward.

    McDavid/Necas/ Kucherov/Bjorkstrand/Rust/Nugent Hopkins/Cirelli/Zegras/- Letang/Morrissey/Dahlin - Swayman/Saros/Skinner

    Prospects include:
    McTavish/Clarke/Bordeleau
    Dumais/Korchinski/Hutson

Don't worry I'm not going to say anything more than I have to. If that.

I'd still rather have Smith than Darling TBH. But man. This guy has been total junk this year.

    Seriously, I thought heÂ’s a solid 3rd option.
I drafted him before Crawford, Varly, and whole buch of guys playing well right now.
Is Smith struggling to adapt the new shoulder pads?
What is wrong with this guy..
