So tough but Aho is Young too and I thinl a30-40g guy with 70-80 point potential. Peterson has to be a very elite player to CONSISTENTLY beat those numbers.
As much potential as Peterson has, I'll take the sure thing. Aho and I believe I'll be in the minority here but I've just seen guys reach on prospects when the sure thing is already there time and time again. Trying to own the shinny new toy.. Sometimes those prospects work out, sometimes they don't.
I'll take Aho this season and reassess this answer at the end of the year.

This one is soo close.. I think theres no right or wrong choce here, but I'm gonna pick Pettersson.
Devils & Predators fan
Aho. I think Carolina is doing good things and he'll have more productive players around him than Pettersson will IMO.
Carolina is gonna become a strong team me thinks.
I like Aho better for this year, but not by much. And I think Pettersson ends up being the better long term own so I would go with him here.
Without me, it's only "aweso".
Aho, Pettersson and his concussion will likely dial him back and even take him a week to not be scared playing when he does come back.
Aho this yr, tie next yr maybe (slight on the Aho side), year 3 I dunno.

Not easy but I prefer Aho a little bit. The sample is not big enought to put Petterson ahead right now I think.

I am so glad I traded for Aho this season. At the time I was very worried, Huberdeau and Tolvanen for Aho. So far though I am more than happy with the returns. Maybe if Tolvanen reaches his potential I will have 2nd thoughts. Until then however it looks like it's going to be an awesome run. With all that said, I would probably trade Aho for Pettersson in a heartbeat in my Dynasty leagues. If his owner in my league wasn't a Canucks fan I would be trying like the devil. Aho for this year and maybe next. Pettersson after that. However, Aho should still be a top 30 player. Pettersson could be a top 10 player. Aho might have some top 10 seasons, I just think Pettersson looks like he could join the McDavid/MacKinnon/Matthews/Laine group that is replacing the Crosby/Stamkos/Ovechkin/Malkin/Kane group. Kucherov is probably in between, he's still got a lot of years left. Marchand joined the elites later in his career. He's still got years left, but just turned 30. I'm not sure if he stays there for all of those years though.
So yea, Pettersson is that elite I think. Aho I look at more like Zetterberg. Well I think they have a lot in common. So top 25 for him seems reasonable for most of his career.

safer bet is aho -- more sample size. But given what Pettersson was able to pull off so far I wouldn't be surprised if you went with him also. Just tough to call since he's injured and might be out for a few games. I'm curious to see how he is when gets back. If he keeps the pace then obviously Pettersson is better. Overall I think Pettersson is better long term but whenever head injuries (especially concussions) are in play so early into a career, it gets a little scary since its so easy to re-injure again.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up keeping Pettersson and moving Aho as part of a deal for McDavid. It was close for me and a tough choice but I just think Pettersson could be a tier above Aho. Only time will tell if I made the right choice.
Aho for now, but long run I would go Pettersson.
Pretty close though, I just prefer Pettersson

help me understand your logic here..i certainly dont consider Aho to be very elite, not sure anybody else does either, and yet you seem to think EP NEEDS to be to match what Aho is doing? Why cant he just be a consistent 70-80 like Aho? thats not VERY ELITE.
BTW i woulda help EP, and i see the OP has made his deal anyway. HTM's comment made me ask...
