Default Marchand for Erik Karlsson? Rep given!

My defense is terrible and this would help solidify it, but at the cost of Marchand. Is it worth it? There are no good d available in FA, so I would likely be grabbing Skjei or Lajoie if I don't make this trade. Thanks!

Given your skater categories, I wouldn't do it. In my opinion, there are too many question marks around Karlsson and his new role with the Sharks while Marchand will keep dominating and give you a good boost in pretty much all your categories. Points only, you may want to do it depending on your the difference between your forward replacement value and defense replacement value, but it is still not obvious.

How many forwards and D do you start every week?

That's a big part of the equation - my tendency would be to say go for it and trade for EK, if you start say 1D for every 2 forwards.

Forwards aren't much better in free agency; Foegele and Comtois are the only ones available who catch my eye. All of the super rookies are gone and there's no one left who cracked 40 points last year.

We change our rosters daily, and have 6 bench spots, leaving 9 forwards and 5 d to play.

I would make the move - it leaves you a bit thin at forward depth but that?s the price you pay to get the worlds best fantasy dman. I think EK will put up huge numbers in San Jose, and you'll have an excellent top 3 on D with Provorov and Carlson.

I’m probably biased as a Marchand owner but there’s no way I’m moving Marchand.

He’s on the best line in hockey and he’s a fantasy beast.

Karlsson still has question marks about his health and deployment in San Jose.

As a Karlsson owner, I wouln't be interested at all to trade him for Marchand. I give Seguin+Doughty+Puljujarvi for Karlsson and it was cheap in the opinion of the majority of the GM in my league...

In my mind, you don't trade the best defender unless you get the moon or something you really need (a great goalie for example). But if you can get him for Marchand, go for it and don't look back my friend!

Hahaha still a hung jury. Thanks for the input guys. I see benefits to both and know I can depend on Marchand on any given night, and as mentioned have doubts about Karlssons deployment and health (he's DTD right now?). Anyone else's opinion would be highly valued...

In a 1 year league I would prefer Marchand. It's tempting, but Marchand is a top 3 LW on one of the best lines in the league IMO. Karlsson is a top 3 D but there's more question marks in SJS.

Give me higher production in those cats and proven elite line chemistry.

Which D are on waivers? Maybe you could get a HIT / BLK specialist?

Starting 9 forwards versus 5 defensemen makes me want Karlsson here. I understand the risk with somebody who is day-to-day, but Marchand is day-to-day every day for a suspension. If you broke out the forward positions at 3 spots each, I'd want Marchand.

Sorry, the forward positions are broken up daily into 3 C, 3 LW, and 3 RW. As far as free agent defense, I've been keeping an eye on Lajoie, Slavin, Skjei, Spurgeon, Demelo and Girard.
