That's very interesting. I find it strange that the Islanders couldn't have found a way to keep him. They do have lots of contracts for bottom six forwards on the roster, and some were signed this year and have no-trade or no movement clauses. He's 28, but that's almost a youth movement for them.
Clearly they want to stick with the known commodities, but their cap situation is kind of ugly, even though they have a lot of room.

Usually mutual terminations are to allow the guy to go back to Europe. I find it strange the player can use this to move to another NHL team. Granted, he hasn't actually signed with Boston yet but he's definitely part of their organization.
