Zack Smith was centering Mark Stone and Brady Tkachuk yesterday. Guy Boucher said his plan was to keep him there throughout this week.

Clearly the coach didn?t see this coming either.

per @SunGarrioch, #Sens have placed forward Zack Smith on waivers. Should Smith clear waivers, and is assigned to Belleville, the Sens would receive $1.025M in cap relief, reducing his cap hit to $2,225,000 against Ottawa's salary cap during any such loan.

I thought he was gonna be one of the guys they kept to keep them above the salary floor in these lean years. His teammates aren't holding back their disappointment with the move to the press.

Maybe they have a potential trade in place for him but the receiving team didn't want to have to pass him through waivers?

I think this was a shot at Boucher. Remember at the end end of last season, when the decision was made to keep Boucher, Dorion stressed he wanted to see more young players in key roles. But Boucher kept playing Smith with Stone and Tkachuk on the second line.

It reminds me of Moneyball. The coach wouldn't play the players Brad Pitt wanted, so Pitt traded players away to give the coach no other choice.
