Default Advice for 2nd overall pick in inaugural draft for limited keeper

    Hi everyone,

In the first ever draft of a new, 12-team limited keeper league, I've got the second overall pick. League details are:

    12 Teams H2H, Daily starts
    Positions: Cx3, RWx3, LWx3, Dx4, Gx2, Benchx6
Forward stats: G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, GWG, SHP, Hits, Blocks, SOG, FOW
Goalie stats: W, L, Saves, SO's, Save % and GAA.

Keeper rules are a little complicated but basically keep between 3-5 players and no player can be kept for more than 3 yrs, so definitely encourages a win-now approach.

Assuming McDavid goes #1 overall, I'm thinking Ovie for #2, but open to advice on that and general draft strategy for snake draft with picks 2, 23, 26, 47, etc. Last couple years with the same group, I've been top-3 in the regular season but my teams always fall apart in the playoffs.

    Thanks, and happy drafting!

I'd consider Karlsson but I always do. I would take Kucherov over Ovi though.

    McDavid/Necas/ Kucherov/Bjorkstrand/Rust/Nugent Hopkins/Cirelli/Zegras/- Letang/Morrissey/Dahlin - Swayman/Saros/Skinner

    Prospects include:
    McTavish/Clarke/Bordeleau
    Dumais/Korchinski/Hutson

Don't worry I'm not going to say anything more than I have to. If that.

2nd is so tough.. I would be debating 3 guys: Ovechkin Karlsson or Kucherov.. Ovie has been a multi-cat beast but how will.he play after winning the Stanley Cup?? Will he still have that burning hunger??

Crosby wouldn't be a horrible idea at 2.

So here's what happened. Lemme know what you think!

I ended up taking Ovie with #2. It seemed a toss up between a few guys and I liked the goals/hits/shots combo. With a max 3-yr horizon for keepers, hopefully I'm not gonna lose too much. As for the rest of the draft, lemme know what you think:

    R1 (2) - Ovie - enuf said
R2 (23) - Seguin - was a little surprised he was still there. Its amazing how quickly FOW drop after the first few C. Happy with this pick.
R3 (26) - Andersen - I totally didn't plan on taking a goalie before R5, but for some reason I did. Vasilevskiy, Holtby, Rinne, Hellybuyck and Bob were already gone.
R4 (47) - Forsberg - This was an f-up. A lot of guys went earlier than I expected and I was switching between FantasyGeek and the Yahoo draft tool sorting and searching for different alternatives and both systems froze. I ended up auto-picking Forsberg. A fine player, but I was not looking for LW in this spot. (BTW am I the only one who ALWAYS has problems with FantasyGeek Draftgeek tool? Constant errors...)
R5 (50) - Rackell - Still reeling from the screw up in R4, and feeling I really needed a RW. Draisaitl, Rantanen, Ehlers, Radulov. Boeser, and other RW were still available, somehow I went Rackell.
R6 (71) - Ghost - my first D. Klingberg went 2 picks earlier. I had Ghost as a possibility in this spot, I'm satisfied.
R7 (74) - Carlson - I figured I'd take care of my top 2 D right here. Krug, Hamilton, Pietrangelo and Dumba were the next 4 D off the board.
R8 (95) - Hornquist - J.T. Miller was still out there. Kinda wish I went that way...
R9 (98) - Johansen - My 2C. Would love to see Nashville lean on their top guys a little more...
    R10 (119) - Kadri - I'm from Toronto...
R11 (122) - Palmieri - DeBrinkat and Oshie were the next 2 RW off the board.
R12 (143) - Varlamov - Not confident in my 2G. Over the next few rounds I kept meaning to grab Grubauer just in case, but late-draft tedium distracted me and I lost out.
    R13 (146) - Gallagher - Hope is +/- is bearable.
    R14 (167) - Parayko - H and BS, with decent SOG
R15 (170) - Elliot - How bad can this be...?
R16 (191) - McDonagh - I thought I'd get Gardiner here but he went one pick before me. I've since replaced McDonagh with Colin Miller off the WW.
R17 (194) - Stastny - Hopefully he and Pax can work some magic on L2 for VGK
R18 (215) - Klefbom - Hopefully he, and the Oilers PP in general get their shit together this year. If so, this is a steal.
R19 (218) - J. Staal - Some nice FOW and Hits with a little offense
R20 (239) - Rattie - a total flier. Hopefully some early season play with McDavid, if not will be replaced with whomever is hot.
R21 (242) - Perron - my final pick. A season like last year would be awesome for #242.

I lost my way a little bit during picks 3-5 and a few other spots I could have been smarter, but altogether decent I hope. I'm a little light on PIMs and my G2 and G3 could be decent or awful. Backlund and Schmaltz are two guys still on the WW as alternatives to Stastny.

    Any other thoughts?
