Trading for Matthews, what do you think?

What do you think about this trade Dobbers?

A. Matthews + M. Tkachuk vs N. Backstrom + B. Montour + 2 and 3 round pick 2019 (the 3 round is very valuable).

I try to acquire Matthews for a while but I am very hesitant to give Montour just before his imminent breakout.

Any advice is appreciate!

yes we keep all our players (to a maximum of 52) and the round 1-2 are the rookies. Round 3-4-5-6 are any players availables and usually, very good players are there in round 3 (ex. this year: W. Karlsson, Gourde, Suzuki, Tolvanen, Thomas, Donato, DeBrusk, etc.).

In my mind Matthews is a small upgrade over Backstrom right now (but considering the age and upside, it's a no brainer) and Tkachuk would fit in my top12. But Montour will be very difficult to replace, especially in 2-3 years when he will dominate the league...that's why I hesitate.

If I was trading away Matthews, this would be an easy rejection. Backstrom is great but already less valuable than Matthews; and Montour + picks don't come close to Tkachuk.

A starting place for Matthews (without Tkachuk) would be: Voracek + Provorov; and then be willing to swap Voracek for any forward not named Malkin/Gaudreau/Kuzy and Provorov for any defenseman not named Karlsson/Josi/Yandle.

As an aside, I've never seen short handed time as a stat. I like it.

Thanks for your advice and yes, we were trying to give more value to the all around defenders, that's why we add that stat and it's very fun! Guys like Provorov and Josi can easily get a 20-25 extras points by the end of the season!

Easy yes... we don't know if Montour will be THAT good. He still have to prove himself.

I would give up Backstrom/Montour/pick2/pick3 for Matthews alone. I wouldn't think twice about accepting it.

The other GM was telling me yesterday that he would be interested in that deal. I just told him that I am welling to do that and wait for his confirmation.

The focus should be on Matthews vs Backstrom and I see Matthews as a big short and long term win for you. Don't let montour cloud the win. Tkatchuk is also no slouch.

I like this trade alot for you. Seems quite cheap to get Matthews tbh.
