    Default Talbot v. Luongo/Reimer

For the league in my signature. A GM is interested in my Talbot and I think I could leverage him for a nice return. The problem is that Talbot is my #1 goalie.

Luongo/Reimer are available on the waiver wire and I'm curious how precipitous of a fall there is from Talbot to the FLA goalies? Other options would be the Lehner/Greiss tandem.

    1. stupid strategy? Talbot's wins and stats will be far and away better than FLA?
    2. brilliant strategy? Luongo/Reimer will outperform Talbot?
    3. other?

    Thanks!

    It could play " ok"

Whats the return for Talbot? That's #1 question. Do you have something almost done?
    That is important info..

I'm not against Lu and Reimer but prefer Talbot, however if this " return" really impact your team in a positive way you gotta take a look.

You omitted a key piece of information - what would Talbot net you in return if you did trade him?

In theory this could work quite well, as Reimer/Luongo will likely be roughly equivalent to Talbot, but if they are both sitting on the wire they have little to no value, and they will need babysitting to see who gets the start, whereas Talbot is more "set it and forget it", plus you are tying up and additional roster spot for part of the season (I'm assuming only part as luongo will probably spend a big part of the year on your IR).

    What's the return?

I would stick with Talbot. Going from Talbot to the Florida tandem will obviously net you more starts and maybe wins overall, but that's 2 roster spots instead of 1...seems less efficient. I would hold onto Talbot and try to find another goalie.

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure the return but I would think one of Schenn, Hall, Werenksi, etc. (maybe a bit steep for the other GM, who also has Gallagher, Puljajarvi, Provorov, Aho, etc.)

You're right - Talbot + Smith frees up a roster spot versus Smith + Luongo + Reimer.

I mean ... if you could get Schenn or Hall, I think you kinda have to make this deal. Either of those guys would be a serious return.

Agree here. Schenn/Hall + Luongo & Reimer is better than Talbot + Smith, although there MUST be a better option than Smith out there on the wire if Luongo and Reimer were both there.

TBH I doubt Talbot nets you a guy like Hall or Schenn. The others are right thought, it's all fine and dandy to have this kind of idea and it might work out but don't do it just because. Make sure you get a good deal for Talbot and go from there. Make sure your "after" team is better than your "before" team.

you should probably grab Koskinen if you won Talbot... Edm could end up looking more like Florida in net by Christmas. If you can get Hall or Schenn for Talbot and guarantee yourself the Florida duo. I'd probably pull the trigger

thanks everyone - rep given where I could.

I'm rolling the dice on a Talbot bounceback + a one-last-hurrah for Smith.

Contract year for Talbot usually/should mean bounceback year for Talbot. I would hold Talbot.

I do agree with eric though, I am skeptical you can get that type of return for Talbot today considering the year he just had. I don't know your league as well as you do but that would see a tad rich if you could pull that off.

If you can get that sort of return, I'd be willing to make the deal. There's no guarantee Talbot bounces back, and there's now competition. The Florida tandem should produce about the same as Talbot & a random backup.
