Husso or Ullmark?

Who have the more potential? Can these 2 be starters in a near future?

I could see both end up being starters 1 day. I think Husso has slightly higher upside but Ullmark probably has an easier path to getting a shot at it. Ullmark has done well in limited call ups playing for a weak Buffalo team in the past.

Husso has much more upside, he just isn't guaranteed to play in the NHL this year compared to Ullmark. If I were to count on one having starter quality it would also be Husso. Ullmark will likely be a career backup.

I think Ullmark has the higher upside and both can be starters in the NHL eventually.

I think most will prefer Husso due to the better team in front of him (today) though.

I believe that Husso will be the better goalie long term. However, I believe the Blues are taking a good path in allowing him to continue to develop and start in the AHL. That could quickly change if Allen is injured long-term or if he falls apart again, because Chad Johnson is not the answer. This training camp should be a great opportunity for us to see where Husso is in his development, as he should get more opportunities with Allen hurt.

Ullmark is further along in his path to the NHL. He should be the back-up goalie for Buffalo this year. I believe that Hutton will play well enough this year to keep the starting role. However, Ullmark may get more starts than a typical back-up. By 2020-21, I believe that Ullmark will be starting in Buffalo. Unless things get crazy and Luukkonen steals the show.

Take my thoughts for what they are worth....Not much. After all we are talking about young goalies!

Short-term Ullmark, who I believe will take over from Hutton, aka Darling II (yet with better stats), around January. But personally I see his ceiling somewhere around Martin Jones and floor around Jaro Halak/Cam Ward.

Long-term Husso. I don't really see competition in the STL system, including Allen. I think he could have a Hellebuyck-like season in 2020/21.

Allen is out with back spasms to start camp. I'd be curious to see whether that changes anything for Husso in training camp. I kind of expected Husso to see NHL starts when Allen was injured this season anyhow. Just not sure if he has anything to really prove in training camp, or whether the Blues will roll younger prospects or let Johnson get a couple reps in.
