    Default Keep Letang or...?

    Hey gang,

I'm looking to shed cap (team and league in sig). I was thinking about dropping Letang, but not sure if the following options are worth owning. I'm hoping to shed $1m-$3M in cap.

    $4.1 Kelfbom
    $5.25 Skjei
    $6.25 Shattenkirk
    $5.5m Tyler Myers
    $4.8m Matheson

I agree with keeping Letang. Second choice would be Klefbom though.

Pay for the points, get hits/blocks/PIMs for cheap. Keep Letang over every one of those guys.

Letang is sooooo much better than those other options that I'd really try hard to cut salary some other way. Palmieri? Hertl? Rinne? Maybe you can find an adequate replacement for one of those.

I'm sure he is a solid multi-cat contributor for your team, but I think Hertl is the guy I would be looking to trade to shed some cap space. He very well could be the new 3C for the Sharks after the Karlsson trade, and he's definitely going to be on the outside looking in at the monster PP1 unit - I'd assume Couture-Thornton-Pavelski + Burns-Karlsson. At $5.625 million, I think you can find a cheaper 40+ point center to replace that production.

It's going to be a hell of a lot harder to replace Letang's value, or Palmieri's value, or Pacioretty or Ghost's value. And here's the thing: he has real trade value. You could feasibly trade him for almost a direct replacement that comes at a lower cost if your trade partner believes he's finally going to break out offensively.
