How do you think Sekera injury will affect Nurse's stats?
I'm thinking a minute or 2 more icetime? Lock on the 2nd PP? Maybe a 5 point bump?

Sounds about right, but I'd almost bet on them making a trade to bring in another Dman. The FA market is scarce.

I don't think it actually helps Nurse but it adds certainty to his minutes. If he increases his production I think it will be due to personal growth more than Sekera's absence.

i think it'll help Bouchard more than Nurse.
Bouchard can cause a surprise be possibly take PP1 time and lots of Points just by passing it to McDavid.

I think Bear might have the advantage on Bouchard to secure that spot this year. He looked good in his call-ups last year.
maybe a trade...

this is the year Nurse begins to really emerge as the anchor of the Oilers blue-line and prove he's a top pairing Dman. How much that translates into point production - that's the real fantasy question mark. 22-25min a game for him won't surprise me. Especially with the depth of options surrounding him. he was originally touted as a point producing Dman when drafted. With his mobility, shot generation there's still a chance he emerges into a 35+pt Dman. He averaged 22:14 TOI last year - that will rise again. but only :28/gm on the PP. If he can add a minute to that there's your 35pt Dman with huge periphs.
I think Klefbom gets first PP look and a long look this year - if he's not productive, then Nurse should get a look, but get the feeling it'll be a coin flip between him and Bear. I really don't see Bouchard as an option this season, expecting a 9 game cup of coffee then ripping the OHL up alongside Boqvist

The problem with any trade is the cap situation in Edmonton... They would have to move a substantial ugly contract (lucic/sekera) to land any quality d man which most teams wouldn't be interested in. Keep in mind in a year Sekera is back on the books at 5.5 mill...

Nurse is probably the 4th best option on the PP among Oilers dmen even with the Sekera injury. Klefbom, Benning and Larsson will all probably get shots on the PP before Nurse will. Nurse is not a very good puck distributor. Most of his offense comes off the rush as he is very good at skating the puck out his own end. That is not a skill that translates to the PP.
5v5 will probably see Nurse and Benning play together as they are a pair that have done quite well in the past. I would think that Nurse gets about the same ice time or, more likely, slightly less than last year. Sekera only played 36 games last year and was not 100% for any of it. Larsson and Klefbom missed almost 20 games each last year and Klefbom played with a bum shoulder and Larsson dealt with his father passing away. Those two should be the top pairing and should both be able to play more than they did last year.
Sekera was torched last year too. If anything, it helps maintain the elevated status Nurse got last year.
That said, he is naturally due for more responsibility - in the form of tougher opponents, most likely. Doubt we see him quarterbacking a powerplay anytime soon, but you never know
