Will Cory Schneider, other injured Devils be ready for training camp?

    https://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/..._be_ready.html

He had torn cartilage in his left hip and it was the same as Rinne's problem. He took about a calendar year for him to really get back to "normal"

Thanks Donpaulo. Hoping that Schneider, like Rinne, is able to bounce back from this. Good news is it explains how he's gone from elite territory until 2016/17 to mediocre last two years, at least his owners hope so.

I think Rinne also had a blood infection which complicated his situation.

Now that you mention it, didn't Pekka get the blood infection after the surgery when trying to rehab ?

I remember the setback and him shutting it down

Yeah seems to be a lot of hope for him to be ready but I just don't see it. Devil fan and all I would perfer he sit out until mid November and then take a more backup role to kinkaid for most of the season until he is ready.

At a basic though I don't think we see him to start the season. He will need time to get into game shape

I could see this developing into a scenario where he ends up missing camp + the first couple weeks of the season, and gets starts down in the AHL on an “emergency conditioning assignment” (if that’s even possible) or the like. Schneider is one of those goalies who carried a lot of value even into last season, but his injury woes have kinda dropped him out of the “elite” conversation of late. I think as an owner you have to ride it out, and hope he can put these issues behind him much like Rinne was able to.

I have hope, but my outlook for the first month or so of the 18-19 season isn’t exactly great.

Yes. Common, unfortunately. And the blood infection needs to be treated first and foremost which in turn delayed the hip rehab

It seems like the outlook is pretty good, as he has been steadily progressing in workouts and practices since the beginning of camp. I think he is on schedule to be back in his #1 starting role with the Devils by November. This article mentions the possibility of a conditioning stint in the AHL to bring him up to speed when he's finally ready to go: https://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/..._season_o.html

Thanks I think a stint makes sense as well. Hopefully he is closer to mid Oct than November... And that he returns to form taking care of these nagging injuries.

I'm a big believer, as you can see I drafted him as my #1 goalie in the new dynasty in my signature. Prior to the last couple years, he had six straight seasons with a Sv% .921 or higher, and a couple of those seasons were on pretty bad Devils teams. He is starting to approach an age where goaltender performance begins to drop off more substantially, but he isn't a geezer and he has typically been very consistent throughout his career.

When I say November, I'm thinking within one month he is back in the swing of things, starting games, getting back up to game speed and conditioning, and just being comfortable again. He's been out for a good while, so it should take a few games to get his rhythm and timing back in the starter's crease. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I hope a month from now he is kinda back to that level. He was awesome during the playoffs, and with an improving team in front of him it could be an unexpectedly good season for Schneider.

Encouraging to see that they?ll likely put him on IR tomorrow. I mean only because it opens up a much-needed roster spot!

For the sceptical masses, check out Schneiders splits for Oct to Dec 2017 - his usual elite peripherals and went 17-7-4.

According to Corey Masisak twitter feed, Devils 23-man roster is final and Schneider?s been placed on IR:

?#NJDevils announced the opening-night roster. They did not sign Drew Stafford to a standard contract and Cory Schneider goes on the injured list. 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies. Quenneville, Dea, Gryba, all make the team.?

According to Amanda Stein on Twitter: #NJDevils John Hynes says Cory Schneider ?is now day-to-day.?

My guess is they keep him on IR for awhile longer and that he gets sent to AHL for a conditioning stint. The way Kinkaud is playing, there?s no rush.
