Svechnikov will be a stud, but I never expect him to outperform players like: McDavid, MacKinnon, Laine, Matthews, Eichel, Kucherov, Tavares, Hughes, Lafreniere, etc.
I don't see a defenseman under 20 years old on the horizon that projects to touch Dahlin.
Of course anything can happen, but Dahlin projects to be the highest scoring D on the planet when Karlsson eventually slows down, I don't see that type of impact from Svechnikov - he'll likely never challenge a McDavid, Kucherov, MacKinnon, Matthews, etc. in the scoring department.

Dahlin: prime upside: 60-70 points / peak season(s): 73-78 points
Svechnikov: prime upside: 70-80 points / peak season(s): 82-86 points

Look at the forwards that have recently been labelled either generational or franchise/elite: Tavares, McDavid, Eichel, Matthews, Laine, Hughes, Lafreniere.
Look at the defensemen: Dahlin.

Hey man, I take Dahlin here. From everything j have read he is the best young rookie dman to draft entry season since Karlsson. It is worth he gamble and Buffalo is much improved. Go for it. Dahlin is the choice here.

I too have the #1 pick and even though Svech might produce more instantly, you just can not pass up the chance to draft Rasmus Dahlin.

I'd try to trade with the dude who has 2. Try to get another pick and then pick Svech.

I have been team Svech from the beginning. I was reading comments of him not producing on the same level as Laine or Eichel, and in the same breath saying he has the upside of an 80-90pt player.

He has the playmaking acumen, goal scoring ability and will play on both the PP and the PK.

While Laine could put up 50-30/35
Or Eichel 40-50, why couldn't Svech be a 40-40, 45-45 guy?!

I like Dahlin a lot.. but Dmen take time to find their game. The forward is more or less fantasy relevant far earlier.

I honestly feel like Svechnikov is the least talked about 2nd overall pick in recent memory!

Dahlin for me too.

Certainly true that there are no guarantees with any prospect, and that defensemen generally take longer to develop. But the amount of praise heaped on this kid from all corners of the hockey world is tough to ignore. And perhaps even more importantly for fantasy purposes, in my view, the chances of another Svechnikov-type being available to you in the next year or two are significantly better than the chances of another Dahlin-type.

You're likely to get a real nice player regardless. But if I had the choice, I'd opt for Dahlin.
