Gallagher+Bear vs Ferland+Johns

Down to my final roster decision for the team listed below. I have enough cap space to keep either:

FERLAND+JOHNS+FOLIN
or
GALLAGHER+FOLIN+BEAR

Obviously, there are a bunch of questions here.

1. How much does Ferland fall off this year?
2. Will Gallagher get burnt by the tire fire?
3. Can Bear make the team without an injury?
4. Is his upside worth holding onto?
5. How many games will Folin take from Gudas or Sanheim or Hagg?

The below comparison uses last years stats. Expect for Bear's, which is a projection using last year's stats/game over 30 games.

Ferland is going to be lost in CAR's winger depth. I have him down for 30-45 points. Gallagher will have a worse year than last, but still is a multicat stud who will put up 45-55+. The main differences to me are Gallagher's SOG and point production. Hits can be replaced from the WW, so Johns vs Bear doesn't matter to me much.

To play Devil's Advocate... is 10-15 points really worth an extra 2m?

While I agree that Ferland will be buried in Carolina, will 10-15 points be harder to replace on the WW than 250hits and 100blocks?

Well comparing other stats between Ferland and Gallagher, you trade 80 Hits from Ferland for 10-15 points, 100+ shots, and 10-15 stp from Gallagher. Plus you have a known cap hit for Gallagher for an extra 2 years. Imo Johns, Folin and to an extent Bear (depends if you can stow bear on your minors), are WW quality in a league like this. Just rotate depth D each week to optimize games played and you'll get similar multicat production.

Fair. Obviously Gallagher is far superior to Ferland.

I think my hangup is that I'm not looking at them in isolation. If I take Gallagher, I'll have 1m to spend on my last D. If I take Ferland, I'll have 3m.

You're probably right about taking the best player and the cost certainty, though.

Interesting dilemma. I see you as having to choose between Hits/Blocks over Special Teams Points (can be hard to find) and to a lesser extent Points. I'd go with Ferland and Johns and hope that Ferland finds himself in the top six somehow and a little PP2 (PP1 might be too much to ask for). Johns has his value in your setup and Gallagher, while I love the way he plays, it sometimes leaves him banged up and out for stretches (or at best, playing hurt).

I ended up going a different direction all together when I found Esa Lindell just randomly sitting there in our FA. That was a pretty easy pick up for my 7th D. I mean, I like Johns a lot in my league's settings, but that was at last year's price. And even without him, I still have 12 other guys who got over 100 hits last year.

With him taking up 2.2m, I had to choose between a 24 man roster with Gallagher (3.75) OR a 25 man roster with Maroon (1.75) and Ferland (1.75). I chose the later.
