I'll say that I'm thrilled to make this pick.
Part of winning a fantasy pool is getting MORE value for your pick than where you made it... and the guy that I think CAN possibly be a top 25 fantasy player and a top 5D is still available here.

Calgary didn't really give Dougie Hamilton a chance to be the top-billing D-man, but Carolina will.
I expect him to give him huge minutes and PP1 duties.

He's already a SOG monster and CAR is showing all the possible tools to put together a very formidable PP1 unit.
I also think we see him in a show-year with rises on his HIT/BLK/PIM to show that he can be the #1 D-man the Canes need.
Dougie is simply not a 44pt D-man. He had 32esp and just 12ppp last year, but I think he can do 25-30ppp. So, he's a 55-60pt D-man ready to pop!

With the 4.9, Pengwin's Penguins select Dougie Hamilton, CAR

Not sure if this is a bit too early for him to be selected but I?m taking a player that gives me full category coverage....

As per Axeman's direction from finny's fantasy to take the next forward...F-Johnny Gaudreau CGY. Mega assists and points and excellent sog. You'll have to get your truculence elsewhere, but the early rounds are normally for the talented players and Johnny Hockey is talented! NEXT!!

Now... I'm not sure if the uptick in NHL scoring has created this panic... but I can't say I have EVER been in a one-year league where only FOUR goalies are taken after FOUR full rounds.
    This just feels off.

It will make for an actual interesting year. And probably worth some more talky-talky.
So... for those that don't ever think about this stuff:
Somehow - someway - Yahoo! has always had to "weight" skater statistics and also "weight" goalie statistics and somehow, with different scoring, merge those players into one ranking.
Well - per my own number crunching - they did this on some of their own base-metrics... but they weren't "real-time" and failed to adjust when league scoring rose.

So, last year, there were only maybe 4 goalies IN the top 50 players...
Whereas, in past years, there might be 8 goalies IN the top 50 players.

Now - in apples-to-apples ROTO... goalies rake the same ROTO-weight each year.
There are a certain number of categories for goalies to score points.

So... it doesn't matter if the 5th best goalie was a 2.30gaa two years ago and was only a 2.50gaa last year.
That's STILL the 5th best goalie and he should STILL be drafted at the same relative draft round regardless of skaters vs. goalies.

We shall see where Yahoo places goalies this year, relative to skaters.
    But with all that said...
It was simply one down-year for Braden Holtby.
He has been the closest thing to fantasy-goalie-consistency over the past 5 years.

With Washington winning a cup AND with Grubauer leaving, I think Holtby actually feels loosy-goosy, which is the best place for a goalie.
There's no more enormous expectations on Holtby and I think he quickly returns to being a .920sv%+ goalie.
Washington has all its key players back, minus the potential threat of Grubauer.
They sure as hell can't rely on Phoenix Copley for 30+ starts, so Holtby should get his 60 if healthy.

There's just no way he should be let slide out of the top 3 rounds of a 12-team one-year, start 2G draft.
(In my own defense, everybody who has ever drafted with me KNOWS that I don't like to draft goalies early... BUT... if you leaving Braden muthafuggin Holtby on the board for me at #52, I'm taking him).

With the 5.4 pick, Pengwin's Penguins selects fantasy-goalie-rock, Braden Holtby.
Silly side hidden note... queue the goalie run. I starts it, you guys follow... cause I just made you all realize you needz a goalie!!!

ps. You guys all suck. I rule. #GiveMeTheTrophy.

    5.6 Matt Murray (G) - Pittsbugh Penguins

One of the best young goalies in the league and on a powerhouse team in Pittsburgh. Had a rough season but he had to deal with a lot but I fully expect a big rebound from him.

    5.7 Patrice Bergeron

scores at point per game almost last season and he missed some games and still had over 200 shots. He is plus 155 over his career and I expect the top line for the Bruins to do better on the power play next year so more PPP.

Crap, sorry guys. I should have stayed up just a wee bit longer and I would have been able to make my pick.

Tough decision about which direction to go, but I will take my first defenseman, D-Alex "what do you mean we have triplets" Pietrangelo STL

    Giddy up.
