Man that is sad. Just think, this man was doing something positive with his life, all to just have it taken away by some hoodlums. What a sick world we are in. RIP
Looking at his wiki, Ten was ranked #3 in the world for a couple years.
Wow, I guess the country did not get behind their first ever skating medalist at the Olympic.

The article in the OP says "his car mirrors". But anyways, doesn't make it any better.
1 or both mirrors, that's just unfathomable for someone who lives where I do. Insane.

Unreal.. So much heartache in this world.. All crimes need harsher penalties.. ALL CRIMES!!

Angus is my best friend at dobberhockey..
Violent crimes need to be punished much more harshly and if you're a repeat offender of violent crime, the penalties should be severe. When you consistently prove that you are violent and can't fit in to society, your society should be other violent criminals.
Also, too many "mentally unstable" people committing crimes. Maybe our tax dollars could go towards solving that problem before we send millions upon millions to other countries around the world. Fix your own back yard before you look at your neighbours.
I would like to see a super maximum prison (repeat violent offenders, the worst of the worst) up in Canada's far north. Build a prison and create a small city way up north. It would create a larger footprint in our north and if there was an escape, you just need a plane with thermal imaging to find them...or the polar bears do.

I get where you're coming from, but this thread is a very ironic place for such a statement. Obviously many of those other countries around the world are in much worse shape than us. Our back yard will never truly be 'fixed', but does that mean we shouldn't help others? My life isn't perfect, so should I not help those who are worse off? Sounds pretty selfish.

I meant selfish in a group sense. As in Canada putting it's own problems before those of other countries, even though it's already light years ahead of many of them. Maybe there's a better word for it, but it seems synonymous with selfishness to me.
Compassion is not a zero-sum game. It doesn't have to be one or the other. We can work on fixing our own problems while simultaneously trying to help those who are lagging behind.
Do we have big problems of our own that need solving? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean we should just turn inward and shut out the rest of the world. At the end of the day, "countries" are just a silly human construct, and we'll never progress unless we learn to look at ourselves as a group who are all in this together.
crazy news
I will agree with what you are saying that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Throwing money at other countries to help "solve" their problems does almost zero good. Countries are just a silly human construct, but humans have always been tribal. Countries are just a natural progression.
I do have a problem with donating taxpayer money to other countries. I have no issue with charities and I think people should donate their time and whatever money they feel they can afford in order to help others who are not as well off as themselves. I draw the line at doing that with taxpayer money because that money was taken by the government and believe that it should be spent on the people within our own country.
I also have a feeling that we may have to agree to disagree on this issue. I'm okay with that.
