Protection list help
Hey,
I'm in a limited points only (G=1 , A=1, Victory=2, SO=1) keeper league with salary cap. We can protect 6F, 3D and 1G out of a 20 playerstarting team (12F, 6D, 2G) and 6 player farm team (3F, 2D, 1G).
So far I'm protecting Crosby, Pastrnak, Barzal, Rakell, Josi, Werenski, McAvoy and Holtby. I have 2 forward spaces left that I want to fill with low salaries and I'm hesitating between Fiala, Teravainen, Buchnevich, Nick Schmaltz and Konecny.
Any advice?

Thanks. I was thinking Fiala and Teravainen for a long time but I really like Buchnevich.
Konecny I'm just scared of his placement on the roster. He was productive in the second half on the top line but if he isn't playing there his value decreases alot IMO. They did add JVR though which makes the second line a good option too I guess.

I like TT here for sure. You could technically call this his magical fourth year and with a new coach he'll see a boost of likely 60-90 seconds in added ice time, a good chunk of which will be on the PP. The second choice is a bit tougher. I like Buchnevich since he's already got a lock on PP1 and he to will be playing for a new coach that will likely abandon the conservative ice time philosophy that Vigneault practiced. Fiala's issue is whlie he'll have a great offensive zone starting percentage his ice time will be held down and he'll be on PP2. My concern with Schmaltz is he probably won't do much better than last season, and with Konecny he could be bumped from the top line and will be on PP2. Even still, Konecny probably is my third choice not too far behind Buchnevich.

Thanks for the input RizzeeDizzee. I'm starting to lean towards TT and Buchnevich. I might be able to trade Fiala for a middle round pick and Konecny will probably be available in those middle rounds If I want him.

I'd keep Teuvo for sure, then it gets complicated.
Konecny had a great run to end the season. He has the talent, and the pedigree, so it will depend on how he is utilized. Fiala has a better floor and Konecny, the higher ceiling. Buchnevich is also very tempting - I feel like this guy could explode any time - and he will have prime minutes.
Can't you package some, or all of these guys for a more solid option? TT+Konecny for a proven 60-69 pts guy might be doable, no? Look for a guy who has mediocre options for his 5 and 6th keeper.

I'm actually looking for a package to aquire Taylor Hall. Salary is higher at $6M but the owner traded a bunch of picks for the next draft so I might get him for about a 4th rounder and a player/prospect. Wondering if including TT, Konecny or even Rakell (still has 4 years left at less than $4M/year) might be worth it!?

Totally would do TT+Konecny for Hall, no doubt. Rakell has a nice price tag, but Hall at 6M is quite the bargain, too, no? In a limited keeper, I'd still deal all 3 of them for Hall.Originally Posted by pumpkinxyz

Thanx saucelife90 and quantaloup. My friend is actually dropping by later to discuss a possible deal. I'm leaning towards trading Rakell a bit more than TT but will see what he's thinking. Might also try both TT and Rakell and keep konecny with lower cap hit.

Well thanx everyone. Ended up making a trade. I gave up Rakell, Teravainen (that's the player he wanted the most) and a 4th round pick against Taylor Hall and a 15th round pick. So I'll be protecting Buchnevich and Konecny.
