On the surface, what you are saying makes sense. However, if reports are true and Leonard wants to be in LA long-term, then I really hate this deal. Toronto traded the best player in franchise history for a one-year rental who is all but set to join Lebron in LA.

Maybe that won't happen...but usually in the NBA rumors like these end up being true.

So also something I just realized, the luxury tax in the NBA works pretty interestingly.

You either pay the luxury tax, or you GET paid the luxury tax.

So if Toronto is 1mill over the tax, and ends up paying (pulling numbers out of my but), 10mill overall in taxes and being over the limit, they are at -10mill. If you are UNDER the luxury tax by 1mill, you end up getting a portion of every luxury tax the league received. So if 10 teams end up paying 200mill in luxury tax, the other 20 teams get a portion of it (avg would be 10mill/team).

So getting under the luxury tax in 2019-20 is a large deal for the Raps I think.

Yeah that's the whole purpose of the luxury tax. Supposed to even the playing field a bit for the smaller market teams

So isn't luxury tax the same as revenue sharing except it's tied to payroll instead of revenue?

I'm not a huge basketball fan, but I will say this trade makes me far less inclined to want to watch the Raptors. They traded away a class act person for a 1-year rental, and to boot - for a player that doesn't even want to be here.

Ditto for me. I'll tune in if the Raptors make it to the second round (just call me Bandwagon Bill).

So many Google Home commercials to be changed now. No Poertl, no DeRozan.

I'd love to have a one where Siakem is sitting on the couch just staring at someone off screen, and say something like, "Poertl, you ok?" and then it's just Leonard staring straight and slowly turns his head with no expression to Siakem and say "Yes". Then Siakem asking a Google Home "Hey Google, where's Jakub Poertl?"

I am certainly not a basketball fanatic and I have not been following this closely.

There is a feeling in my gut that says that Kawhi Leonard is going to end up on the Lakers and Lonzo Ball is going to be a Raptor. I do not know how or why. Something inside says that the Raptors are going to end up trading a guy that wanted to be in Toronto for a the Ball Family Circus.
