Default Talbot or Murray (will reply)

Have the opportunity to pickup Talbot or Murray for draft picks, as another GM must drop one before the draft... Who to target for this year and for next few years?

Matt Murray for me. He is on the better team and yeah he had a down year but he had to deal with a lot outside the rink. I expect a rebound ... something like 35 wins .920 sv % 2.18 GAA.

Oooh, both looking for bounceback seasons. I think they both will bounce back to some extent. I'd have to go with Murray right now because the Pens should continue to be a playoff team this year, and I'm not really sure if the Oilers have done anything substantial to get them back into the playoffs. Actually, one of their big moves was to grab an expensive backup, Mikko Koskinen, from the KHL - at 2.5 m he's going to get more games than the backup carousel did last year.

Another vote for Murray, but it's close. I think they both bounce back strong this year, but age and team strength give the edge to Murray.

I'll say Murray only because he holds better value today but it wont surprise me if Talbot has the better year this year. Murray hasnt been the most durable goalie in his young career.

I think Talbot is a little safer to start more games because Murray hasn't proven to me he can be durable as others have said. However, Murray sweeps the debate in the other categories. He's younger, better, on a better team and in a better position (no one challenging for his job). Another vote for Murray.

I also prefer Murray in a keeper for the reasons others before me have stated.

Thank guys, was leaning towards Murray as well but this is a lot closer than I initially thought. I appreciate the different perspectives.

I don't think it's as close as you think. Read the responses again. If he won't trade Murray or wants to much don't offer anywhere near the same package for Talbot.

In your set up, they are pretty even. Murray's numbers are not superior to Talbots. Talbot would give you an edge in SO and is more durable. I've owned Murray in my most important league and he can be a frustrating own - especially last year. If you are taking Murray, I'd suggest backing him up with a strong #2, even if it means you draft one earlier than expected. Talbot would be my safe bet here, but I'd take Murray just by a hair here.

In our league, similar to yours, with wins and so

    Murray 61 points 1.24 ppg
    Talbot 69 points 1.03 ppg
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.

Murray - by a wide margin. Has Edm actually improved their team this offseason? Being healthy will help, but I'm just not sold on that team. Pitts is still an elite top tier NHL team, and will be for the next few years. Edm wants to be, but they're not.

It depends on how much more Murray would cost you. He's the better long term play, and fits your team better due to Jarry.

He's a risk to miss enough games to make Talbot the better own, however.
