Trade Advice - I'll Rep

My keepers for next season are Barkov (acquired via trade and has 2 yrs left but signing to 4), Wheeler (3), Benn (got via trade and signing to 2) and Kopitar or Patches (1) along with Boeser as my rookie.

I will be dropping guys like Dubois, Rakell and others as it's a 4 keeper league plus rookie carry-over. After next season, I can sign Boeser to a max 2 yr contract, as long as I don't already have 4 contracts committed. The idea is to have someone expiring, but obviously trades can change that. It just so happens that Kopitar I got via trade and has 1 year remaining, and Patches I did as well and has 1 year but I can't keep both and still be able to sign a guy like Benn.

I got offered a 1st rounder pick (13th) overall for Rakell, Kopitar and Dubois, and then I would keep Patches as my 1 year.

It's tough trying to get value for extra guys as minimal teams need a new keeper usually, just the odd team or teams here or there.

Does this trade make any sense, or would you explore other options?

First round last year: Hischier, Granlund, Schenn, Patrick, Sheary, Klingberg, Domi, JVR, Arvidsson, Radulov, Josi, Hamilton, Rakell, Atkinson.

My current picks are 1, 2, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

The only way you can keep 5 keepers (doesn't include rookie) is if you happen to have 4 contracts going into the next season, plus acquire a 5th via trade that hadn't expired, but then you have to forfeit your first.

I would be keeping Rakell over Patches myself. and signing him as long as I could. 3 for #13 overall seems pretty steep.

I'd do a 2-1, but you're helping the other GM out a bit too much in doing this.

I went through the same issue. I'm ready to win so I traded for some picks in the draft. I do like Rakell allot better than Patches as it stands but it all depends on where he ends up. I can see him thrive in a new system.

Maybe Im missing something with your league setup and how you do your keepers but Im curious on your reasoning to keep Pacioretty over Dubois or, as others have mentioned, Rakell?

Patches is already under contract, Rakell I just got via trade but he had no contract. You can only sign another guy if you don?t go over 4 contracts. So I have benn, Barkov, wheeler and then 1 of patches/kopitar. Boeser is my rookie carry over, not going to do that with Dubois over him and Dubois I just don?t have room for in general much like Rakell. If I was able to move Kop/Patches, I could sign Rakell to an open slot but people just aren?t digging Patches.

I could try, but there just isn?t really a market for Patches based on this past season. I could buy out of the last on his contract (50$), move Kop and Dubois and sign Rakell but cant think of anything else. Isn?t Kopitar still safer than Rakell, even with goal regression? I could just stick with Kop as 1 year and move Rakell\Dubois as well, it?s just only getting offered like a 4 or 5, which isn?t terrible but not amazing either. Can?t keep everyone
