This was actually going to be a 3 team trade. I was thinking kane was the better rw, backstrom would be a slight downgrade from Tavares but I would be gaining a 1st round pick in the deal plus I would see if the kane owner would throw in a high pick, capitalizing on tavares perceived high value at this time.Originally Posted by hockeymanG23

Tavares and Tank without question. Kane and Backstrom have a lot of miles on their bodies and are both coming off down years. Tavares’ hype is at an all time high, take advantage of that and get younger not older.

If I had to rank these four, Tavares and Tarasenko would probably be 1-2 and Kane and Backstrom would be 3-4 in some order. Picks wouldn't be enough to swing it the other way when you are talking about franchise players like these.

McDavid, Matthews, Laine, Mackinnon, Eichel, Kucherov, Pasternak, are all guys you could look at if youre trying to get younger. That said Im probably keeping Tavares if I can't get a clear upgrade (Laine, Pasternak and Eichel are not clear upgrades right now in my opinion). If my team is competitive I probably hold and see how this leaf thing plays out. Even though his production could go down from last year.
Taking advantage of the hype is getting a clear win for your team, not just trading him to make a trade.

If you are going to trade Tavares then you should trade him to a Leafs fan who is frothing at the gash for the opportunity to overpay.
Definitely, definitely don't sell for less than market value!

The problem with that idea is that I have already taken advantage of the huge leaf fan in this league when I traded my Austin Matthews and Zaitzev for his Tavares and Hedman. lol
He has smartened up a bit and won't bite on overpaying for Tavares lol .

In my experience Leafs fans rarely smarten up when it comes to overpaying for their team's superstars. He must be an outlier. lol
