The history of players having poor starts when they're back in mid-December is long. Back in December means back to game speed like February/March, which is like game 50-65 of the season.

They miss camp, they have to rehab, get into game shape, all while players have already worked their way back to full game speed.

Yes, eight more years, but only $30 million owed, I believe. So an average of $3.75 million a year. He starts to get paid $6 million a year in the 2018-19 season, and there's no more signing bonuses. So we're now at the stage where he is making much less than his cap hit.

12-team Keeper pool, straight points for forwards & dmen. Goalies get: 2 points per win, 3 per shutout, 1 point per assist & 1 point per shootout loss.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

It's not about the $... it's about the cap hit. His contract will continue to hamstring them until 2026. They'll have to find someone even more stupid than Bergevin to take on that albatross in a trade...

For like 10-15 teams in the league, it's almost completely about the money rather than the cap hit.

There will always be teams willing to take a higher cap hit for lower salary. That is one of the reasons Gaborik was attractive to Ottawa.

Plus teams using their cap space to take on contracts. Arizona has traded for Bolland, Datsyuk and Pronger, for example.

32 with a bunch of injuries isn't a recipe for success .. why go through more pain for a dumpster fire team

If he retires early is Montreal on the hook for the cap space? If so, they're going to be in cap space hell for the next 8 years. Carey Price's new contract is just starting at 10.5 aav. Now if Pricer doesn't turn it around then I don't know what to think anymore. I suppose landing Jack Hughes would cure the pain.

Nashville is on the hook for the cap hit if Weber retires.

Also, he won't retire. Just because he has an injury doesn't mean he wants to hang them up. That makes no sense to me.

I love how people think he's done because he's 32 years old.

Shea Weber plays in the NHL, he's not playing fantasy hockey where a guy is no longer worth anything past the age of 30.

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting

Also, if Weber does come back in January, there would be about half a season remaining which would actually, realistically put him in mid-season form by the time the playoffs roll around in April. Mid season form means a player is probably at peak conditioning for the year. Capeesh? (Italian for understand?)
