Default My goalie situation .... sigh

Hey folks, I?m pretty scared of my goalie situation.

    I have only 2
    Holtby and Price

My fear really comes in the form of Price here. Just unreliable IMO

Anyhow, my defence is also pretty terrible. There are a few goalies that are available in my league and wondering if it?s worth to push for one to replace Price - I couldn?t afford both

    Offer sheet (not a guarantee)
Jones - would cost me close to 8m this year and 2x1sts (2019, 2020)

    Talbot - same as above

    Draftable

Schneider - he was dropped late last year, wondering if he would be a better option at this point than price

    Any advice would be appriciated

You can offer sheet players? You use Fantrax?

id draft Schneider as a 3rd goalie. Price will bounce back this year. New wife, new baby. It looks good in family pictures, but behind closed doors nobody is sleeping and impossible to keep a routine in check.

I'd also go with Schneider and avoid paying the draft picks.

I would keep Price over those options. I don't like having to give up two first round picks and the salary is high.

Also, Scneider was losing starts last year so he is definitely not a safer option.

I fully expect a bounceback from Price.... for the most recent example... think about Holtby's regular season as opposed to his playoffs.

Price doesn't have tough competition... I would stay with him.

here I expected to see Darling, Markstrom, Mrazek. Talk about first world problems! Price's name value should be enough to bring you back a top 10 goalie if you went the trade route. If he won't currently then I would just hold him and either enjoy the ride when he does return to form, or trade him in-season when he gets hot.

The talk about Price these days is reminiscent of Crosby from a couple years ago when he started the season 9pts in 25gp (ended with 86)

A year ago this post would have come off as satirical.

    Wait, actually it still does...

no offer sheets, draft Schneids as the third goalie, although at $6MM AAV, its a touch steep...but hold onto Price it'll turn around.

    Hey all,
    Thanks or the replies...

I'm not trying to say Price is terrible, but I need points, and he has been unreliable. His trade value in my league unfortunately, isn't great.
Taking Schnieder as a 3rd . could be an option, but an expensive one - I do have 2 first round picks this year, I may use my last one for him.

In saying that, there are cheaper options, like Mrazek available as no one has him.

    Thanks again

I would want to keep Price, but if possible I'd wait until the Fall to make the decision. Or at least until we figure out what Montreal's roster will look like next year.

That's why I suggested the waiting game. There will be a month next season where Price is Price and runs out several games in a row with 1 or less goals per game. that's when his value will again jump and become a tradable asset with a solid return

Schneider wasn't losing starts per se. He got hurt, Kinkaid got on a roll, and they went with him down the stretch because of his strong play. I have no doubt that Schneider will be the primary starter for the Devils once again.

Picking up Schneider would be my choice here as well to go along with your other two starters.

You really have a pretty good situation.

    1. You have a guy who's been an elite goalie for a while, and had an off year. However, the team just won the Stanley Cup, and they will now have a backup who is almost no threat to supplant him.

    2. Then you have a guy who was an elite goalie for a while, then had an awful and injury-prone year, coupled with his team completely sucking worse than they had. He then signs a huge contract moving forward, so you'll want him off your roster before it kicks in, and the team is incompetently run, and they can't find enough centers who speak French.

So you need to find a cheap 3rd guy to plug in, who has a shot to take over a job. Who is available that is $3M or under?

Mrazek is a very good option, honestly.
