    Ecstatic about this signing.

Leafs will need to get creative on the cap side, but it's doable. I'd be surprised if they don't already have a plan in place.

The Leafs did not have any problems scoring goals last season as they were 4th in the league in goals for and Tavares is not going to help them give up less goals.

With that said, I fully expect the Leafs to trade Auston Matthews away for help on the back end.
You sir, sound like your all hopped up on goofballs. There is no way this Is a bad signing. JT makes any team better. And (lol) MAtthews will NOT be used as a Defence lure. Is everything ok over there Chuck?

    lol... No

Leafs drafted a 1st overall franchise center and signed another one two years later, essentially getting both without having to give up any other asset but money.

Trading Matthews would be like the Pens trading Malkin or Caps trading Kuznetsov. No, you keep them both. Especially when the one you drafted is only 21yrs old and has nowhere to go but up.

    Couple things.

    1) Marner better than Matthews lol

    2) People saying “it’s just like Pittsburgh” seem to not understand Toronto will take ~5 years to get the cap situation Pittsburgh had when they actually won in 2016 and 2017 and also it takes a pretty special relationship to have to “alpha’s” defer and get along together.

Despite his obviously elite skill, this signing does have a lot of risk attached to it.
I'm still in favour of the signing, don't get me wrong... I'm just saying it could still look bad down the road.
I have seen many excellent teams on paper underperform time and time again.
My friend, just let go and enjoy the signing. There is no chance adding Tavares (in place of Bozak ... and JVR) goes wrong for them. No this doesn’t address their possible need for D, but let’s let Dubas do his thing. So far he’s been golden. And again... Tavares... is a Leaf... and it cost them nothing but money.

Well damn. Congrats Toronto. Even though I can't stand the majority of your fans on these boards, that is going to be a damn good and entertaining team. Well done.

    Going forward...
IMO... I think Toronto is probably going to trade Kadri.
He has very attractive cap value and he's a definite NHL C2.
He's wasted if Toronto uses him as a C3.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Leafs move him for a D and picks in the next two months.
That's my prediction on this impact on the Leafs.

I see Kadri as a more attractive league-wide asset than Nylander.
    (Marner isn't going anywhere.)
Kadri will be used as the top shutdown libe freeing up Matthews or Tavares to play the other teams third line.

This #1C vs #2C vs #3C is such a moot point.

Way I see it is that nobody else's top line is going to get an easy shift. Toronto iced the puck? Oh well, Matthews/JT/Kadri line was out there so they're not worried about the draw, and Babs can pop whichever line WASN'T out there for the transition.

As a Bruins fan I watched the division go from solid to likely the toughest in the East, and I really don't think my boys are the top of that pile on paper right now.
