Default Mason and Petan to Canucks (imagined)

we can dream can't we? I'm sure someone has come up with this already.

Canucks take Mason and RFA Petan with a low pick (6th?) for a 5th and Nilsson to Jets. Canucks retain max salary on Nilsson (50% of his $2.5m)

Canucks get a more reliable netminder to push Markstrom, leave Demko in the minors one more year. Also get a local boy/worthwhile experiment Petan who won't be able to crack the Jets' depth chart consistently.

Jets get $2.85 in cap space and maybe a higher pick (although really they might be giving a higher pick to Vancouver to do it).

I guess the Jets could also try to find takers for Perreault and Copp...

Haha well let's hope! If there's any way Chevy can correct a mistake and move Kulikov and his salary out for something (low pick, whatever), that would go a long way to helping things down the road too...

or the Canucks can just sign a guy like Hutton, lots of UFA goalies on the market.

Looks like he's going to the Sabres; but the 'Nucks already have Nilsson and Mason is an upgrade, how much we'll see.

Anyway maybe it's more than Petan...the Jets have a tonne of prospects that would do well in the 'Nucks' system, so that could be a negotiating point.

I'm guessing you're a Jets fan. Yes the Mason signing was horrible the moment it happened - I was shocked he got that kind of deal.

Why would anyone retain salary in a deal where they are getting Steve Mason back? Jets would be freeing up over a million in cap from Mason, who really needs to be the unquestioned starter to be in the right frame of mind to play well. If the Jets want to deal him anywhere, only the Islanders & Sabres make any sense. They are the teams nominally looking for a starter.

You might be able to get the Canucks to take the whole Mason contract with a pick and/or a prospect, but asking them to also retain max salary is likely a bridge too far.

I could see Mason going to the Islanders but could also see Lehner there too..

As a Flyer fan, I'd be very happy with either of them there.

Well sadly it was Armia who went in the deal, but I guess cap space is cap space....I'd joke about MB getting another 4th line winger but Armia is solid and better than that.

Mason, Armia, 4th and 7th for minor league D Simon Borque.
