Oldest team ever. That's not a recipe for success methinks.

Don't mind this at all, he still seems to be playing at a high level and isn't much older than the majority of the core. Considering that no assets needed to moved other than cap and term and the fit is even better.

Do I think this will put them back into true contention for the cup? No, but overall I agree with the logic the Kings management are using here.

League in signature. What is Kovalchuk value? Would you acquire Rinne with him?

Probably what the majority of teams said as they were chasing him, and thus the reason he signed with LA. They were obviously willing to give him that 3rd year where as others were not.

Does anyone think the Kings regret this yet?? Because if they don't now, they certainly will very shortly..

Kovalchuk is 35, and the NHL has only gotten younger and faster!!

You guys really don't get what a huge upgrade this is for the Kings. LW has been an organizational black hole for years. The top line and the 3rd line get better with this acquisition. Kopi to Kovy is going to be a massive producing combo. We have the sniper that has been missing.

Didn't Calgary have a massive need for secondary scoring when they signed Jagr? Just because you sign someone to fill a role doesn't mean that person is going to fill it.

But, Kings pretty much are going to focus on this yr and maybe the yr after as their window and it slams shut. I can't fault a team for knowing their window, and doing moves based on it.

Yes but Jagr is like 12 years older than Kovalchuk...

Kovalchuk led the KHL in scoring this year and was MVP of the Olympics. This is not a player in decline.

Dion Phaneuf was re-signed and paid like a #1 D.
Drouin was thrust into a C1 role with Montreal, a position he never played in the NHL.

Just because you give the guy the role, doesn't mean he's made for that role is my point.

Kovy brings a very significant element of offense to the Kings at a position of great need. A stud scoring LW to deploy with Kopi and Brown is the single greatest need the Kings have been looking to fill. Kovy's role will be "Be Kovy."

Again, I think your comparisons are of. You are trying to compare the sad-sack Leafs, GM Bergeron and Jagr to Kovalchuk. We?ll see I guess.
