Right about where most figured it would be. The kicker is how he plays in that third year at age 37.

Has the NHL approved the contract yet? (legit question when it's Kovalchuk)

Not a great landing spot if you’re a Toffoli owner (like me).

Decent signing ... a little rich for Kovalchuk but with the cap going up I can understand LA's point of view on this signing.

Crazy money for Kovalchuk. LA can have him.

Glad the Flyers didn’t spend that money on him. The game has changed and he is older.

Adding Ilya Kovalchuk to Dion Phaneuf and Dustin Brown makes the Kings a shoe-in for the 2010 Stanley Cup

Too much on a 3yr deal. I bet others were offering the same (or slightly higher dollar) for 2yrs, so if they really wanted him, LAK had to add the 3rd yr to make them different from others. Isn't the LA tax really high compared to other states so his income is actually going to be lower?

He hasn't earned that kind of commitment from any team, so if he doesn't want to sign a "Show me" deal for a year, all the more reason to let him stay over there.
Just curious on how you'd compare Kovalchuk's contract to the one signed last year by Patrick Marleau?

I'm excited to have Kovy in our lineup. The top line of Kopitar with Kovy and Brown will be sick. Western Conference beware.

consdering the short window remaining for the kings to win another cup, i am fine with the 3rd year. hes still productive and he has other good players to play with in kopitar, probably doughty, jeff carter and etc.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
