I will... we just don't see 85pt rookie seasons grow on trees. Crosby, Ovechkin,

Matthews, Laine, Eichel haven't hit 80pts yet... neither has Draisaitl or Panarin. I mean... fugettaboutit.

How do you guys expect that Tavares leaving/staying will impact his productivity, points-wise. And if this guys scores 85 at 21 years old... is this his ceiling? Or is there... *vertigo*... room for growth?

Room for growth, how many players peak at 21? JT leaving likely stagnates his productivity for 1-2 seasons, in the end, he's going to be a 90+ pt forward with 100pt seasons. Call me crazy for being bold, but scoring's going up and he's the type of player that is benefiting.

    This.

He may have a couple "off" seasons but I'd say his basement is 70ish points.

My comment was supposed to mean I wasn't stepping out on a limb by saying yes. Sounded better in my head. I completely agree. He's the real deal.

I'd say Yes the way the NHL game is evolving right now.

I'm not sure JT leaving really has much of an impact on his production... will be a good test for him to face the toughest lines each night.

Panarin hit 82 this season FYI. Otherwise yes, all of the rest are 80pt capable but haven't hit it yet likely due to injuries (Matthews, Eichel) and/or deployment (Laine, Draisaitl). Barzal got a head start on all of them but they should all flirt with PPG in the next couple of years.

    Two things here:
    1) He had 85 points as a rookie. That's a special year. Another player who had 85 points as a rookie is Malkin. I think we see Barzal close to the top of the league for his entire career.
    2) All players experience ups and downs in their careers. Barzal won't be immune to this. If Tavares leaves it could cause problems for Barzal as the focal point of the other team's defense.

So yeah, we pretty much have a superstar in Barzal but as with everything else we just have to keep things in perspective. If he drops to, say, 72 points in year two that doesn't mean his rookie year was his peak by any means.

Tavares leaving would hurt Barzal, not just from a Power Play point of view, but since Barzal would now be the top checked centre on NYI...

Kid is legit though; but him and say Raantanen may take a step back or may never hit the heights they did this year ever again (yet could still be amazing fantasy players). I like to see it done 2 years in a row before I buy in fully.

On the flip side, Tavares leaving means Barzal gets an upgrade in linemates with Nelson and Lee.

This post is making me feel bad now. I acquired barzal, Perron and 2nd rounder for Crawford at the beginnning of the season. Feels like robbery now. Lol

Barzal had the easier match-ups throughout the season since he was sheltered a bit by the Tavares line. If Tavares leaves town then Barzal obviously gets promoted to the top line and will in turn have the harder match-ups. Not saying he cannot duplicate the numbers of last season but I'm going to mark him down for a slight regression in terms of numbers. Something along the line of 75-80 points for me. Another thing to keep in mind is Barzal is only 21 years old and still improving as a player. I would have to think 100 point upside is not out of the question one day.
