Makes one wonder if he'll appeal citing the missed 18/19 season.
I'm not sure the process he had to go through to get to the point of actually applying for reinstatement.
    Or when that happened.

Weak. Every other UFA suspension is served once a contract is signed.

It shouldn't be the 2019-2020 season, it should be his first full season under contract.

Has Voynov issued a statement on what his thoughts and plans are since the NHL ruling?

The NHLPA is appealing, I'm guessing there will be a statement once all of that is resolved.

Not sure what you're expecting out of a statement though. It's a document approved by lawyers and/or agents. A bunch of fluff.

Wonder if the league didn't think there might be some legal implications in doing that. Effectively reducing his options for employment to cap floor teams (can't imagine anyone else would want to just donate his salary to whatever fund for an entire season) might give him a reason to lawyer up? Would likely mean he just would never play again in the NHL.

    That's the point.

I'm not sure what legal ground he would have to stand on. The NHL isn't a normal work force, and you don't have the legal right to a job there.

Wouldn't surprise me if he won his appeal, has his suspension reduced to six months and then the GM's just have a backroom deal to not sign him.

    I mean... Ray Rice?

He'll probably have his suspension reduced from 82 games to 41.

Ray Rice wasn't signed because he was past the point of effectiveness. Kareem Hunt didn't even have to wait to hear the terms of his suspension before getting a new contract. If a team thinks he can help them win, they will sign them.

i think the timeline of when he completed everything required to apply for reinstatement will be key to his appeal. Games missed from that point, if proven the NHL drug their heels for half a season to review it will likely be taken into consideration.
