Default Karlsson to the oilers (imagined)

Does a package like Klefbhom, Yamamoto, and this year's 1st round pick make any sense?

I was talking to another oiler fan last night at my son's baseball game and he brought this up. Definitely got me thinking.

    C. McDavid, N. Kucherov, R. O'Reilly, J. Schwartz, J. Toews, J. Huberdeau, T. Toffoli, M. Granlund

Not much sense to me considering how much the Oilers are starved on the wings for talent to flank the likes of McDavid, Draisaitl and RNH. Yammy, I'm to understand, is their top prospect. To move him and whoever, they can get this year (maybe Whalstrom) just to upgrade on Klefboom (big upgrade that it is) creates a whole while filling another.

    Can't see it.

I don’t think any Sen fan would be happy with that.

If the Oilers did that wouldn't McDavid, Draisaitl, & Karlsson eat up 1/3 of the cap for the majority of their contracts?

I dont think the Sens fans will be happy with the return if Karlsson is traded anyway. Limited teams will have the cap space to sign him so that limits the Sens options, which will also affect the return. This reason alone eliminates the Oilers. They cant afford to pay Karlsson along with McDavid and Draisaitl.

Agree with Skippy and Axe. I can't see viable return that a Sens fan would be happy with.

In truth, I think adding klefbom/Yamamoto and whoever can be had with the Oilers 2018 1st rounder would be a great return for Karlsson's last year (lets face it, odds are he's not staying in Ottawa so long as current ownership is in place). But I think a move like this would hurt the Oilers more than help them on a variety of levels.

I was assuming Karlsson would be signed by the Oilers as part of any trade, he'd get around $10M+, and the cap would rise to 90M before the mid-point of their combined contracts.

Really? While I agree the incumbent team usually keeps their stud... this team is different in that the owner has zero interest in breaking the bank for any reason (and maybe rightfully so... not like the fans are flooding to the rink to watch their product).

I personally think they can't afford him and if that's true... they best part ways this year. The return will only diminish the closer to D day (departure day) at the trade deadline or end of next season.

I guess we’ll see. It’s only my opinion that he’ll be with the Sens for at least the majority of this year.
